THE RIGHT DECISION

[LUCA]

I did not move. I could almost pass for a statue, except that I was trembling all over from the heart-wrenching emotions raging inside me.

I heard a faint sound of wood cracking, and I looked down. I instantly released my fist from the edge of the canvas board of her painting. I had been gripping it so hard without noticing. I sighed with relief when I saw that no damage had been done.

I gently ran my fingers over the textures made by her brush strokes, imagining her and how she looked while she was painting me. When I saw it for the first time — seeing myself replicated in art form for the first time — it stirred up unexplainable sensations in my chest that made me feel like tearing up. It was incredibly touching.

And what did I do for her in return?

I hurt her. I saw the hurt, disappointment, and humiliation racing in her eyes. Who wouldn't be, after baring your feelings to someone and having those feelings invalidated right after?
