ONE MONTH

Despite the weather growing colder and colder, it did nothing to dampen my high spirits.

As usual, Luca woke up before me. I would've woken up earlier, but he always lets me sleep in. My husband spoils me too much.

"Luca?" I called out when I opened the bedroom door.

"I'm outside!" he called back.

I was about to start my morning ritual when I noticed the scarf I made for Luca on the table. He forgot to wear it again. After wearing my cloak, I grabbed the scarf and headed outside.

It seemed like the forest was on fire now that almost all of the leaves had turned orangey-red. They were brighter atop the trees with the sun as a backdrop, and the dead leaves scattering the ground were more muted but equally as beautiful.

Luca was standing beside a birch tree with a knife in his hand. I tried to creep up silently behind him, like he always did with me, but he knew I was coming right away, turning around to greet me with a smile.
