DID NOT SEE THAT COMING

"Try this one, My Lady!"

I glanced at the sweet snack Louis was holding up to me with an expectant look on his face. It looked like a strip of cinnamon-coated fried dough, and it looked very delectable. I hesitated for a moment before accepting it. "Thank you," I mumbled half-heartedly.

Louis grinned and disappeared into the crowd to hunt for more food I might like. I stared at the snack in my hand, feeling like throwing up when I thought about eating another bite.

We'd been walking around the evening market of the village, where vendors had set up stalls along two whole streets. Delicious smells of various warm food mingled in the air, making my mouth water and my stomach grumble as we eagerly peeked at the stalls, trying to identify where the smells came from.

That was about twenty minutes ago.
