PAIN I HAD NEVER FELT BEFORE

[LENA]

The flap of the tent I was staying in — or to be more specific, forced to remain in while the war was ongoing — was drawn open, and a man appeared. He was an officer of Allore's army, and this tent was his mobile quarters, which he had kindly allowed me to use.

I stood up quickly and clenched my hands together, looking at him expectantly.

"Your Highness, we've regained control of the town and the palace," he reported. "Our soldiers are clearing the woods for remaining stragglers. Rest assured, no enemy can get up the cliff anymore. We have control of the battlefield, and the enemies have retreated for now. I am confident we can hold on until more reinforcements arrive from Allore. The King of Ephemere has requested you be brought back to the palace."
