Chapter 5: The Mission

"Time for your quest, hero", Calvin marked.

Warona watched him get on his feet. They had been making jokes and talking nonstop about everything in particular.

"So am I to kill Mr.Lucifer junior?", she sipped on her tea. Third cup, she didn't know she would feel that comfortable in a stranger's home.

"Like I said, he’s deadly so it could turn out the other way around. But it wouldn’t because again, there’s something about you that will lure him in. Just my belief though, I could bet you ten thousand bucks he’d befriend you on spot."

That bewildered her, in a good way.

"Am I allowed to ask why?"

"Because you look a lot like Rin, like let me not even start with the way you talk, he’s going to go insane."

Why Rin? Did the devil's son know the girl? What was she supposed to know about the demi-devil and her sister that she wasn't allowed to know? Warona's curiosity was turning wheels in her head again.

"You talk as if you know him", she crossed her arms and swam her eyes up and down her cousin brother, not scared to pry.

That vanished the expression that seemed not to leave his face.

Did the devil's son have any kind of relations with that Rin girl? Warona needed to know.

"Maybe I did, ... maybe I didn’t", he took the empty mug and headed for the kitchen.

She stood up and followed, unsatisfied.

"What is it that you’re not telling me?"

She had come to notice that what he dreaded to spit out was actually the most important part of the story. Calvin sighed before opening his mouth.

"He was someone we really trusted", he confessed, avoiding Warona's scrutinizing eyes. "But after what happened with Rin, I discovered that he lied. He wasn't what we thought he was. He betrayed us. But I guess we should've seen it coming, he was the devil's son after all."

Warona wasn't sure if she understood what Calvin was saying or not. She looked at the dagger again, mystified.

She wished to know how this whole fiasco came about. How this whole build-a-church-and-worship-the-devil thing commenced.

Who started it? How? Why? When? Where?

It was hard to believe. Wasn't it yesterday when her life was so perfect?

And right now she was being given a spear to face a bunch of demons and a satanic mastermind that her very own parents worshipped. This was not how she thought her life would turn out.

"So where do I find this guy?", she swallowed, changing the topic to ease the tension.

Calvin seemed pleased with the question.

"I know a place", he seemed content about that.

"Tell me everything I need to know and do"

"There's a cafe down the street ..."

"Am I supposed to murder someone in a cafe?", she cringed, making the boy swallow back a laugh.

"Murder? Not yet", he liked her anticipation. "You have to get answers from him first"

"And you think he's gonna give that to a fucking stranger?"

"Exactly", he smirked. "That's where your witty-happy girl demeanor comes in. You are not supposed to be a stranger to him"

Warona stared, puzzled because, honestly, she didn't even trust her social skills. Let alone being ... witty-happy? She wasn't even sure if that was a real word.

"Are you telling me to befriend a person I'm about to kill?"

"That way, it'll be easier to get the information out of him", he cleared, as if they were talking about something as simple as colouring a picture book or frying an egg.

Warona sighed and looked at the dagger again before tightening her fist on it.

"What about this?"

"You're gonna need that with you everywhere"

"Everywhere?"

"Yes, just in case anything happens. Trust me"

She did trust him. If she didn't she would be in her bed back at home, napping.

"So what do we need out of him?"

"Ren's whereabouts, her exact location."

"After that?", she flipped the blade in her hand, trying to get accustomed to it.

"That's where I come in, you can't go there alone so we'll go save her together"

"Together?", she liked the sound of that.

"Yes, together.", he looked at her. "I'm gonna need you to truly trust me though"

He didn't need to worry about that.

She wanted to assure him there was nothing to fret about for she was set on saving her sister no matter what.

If all it took was her?

Then she would.
