Chapter 6: Learning the Art of Archery

Raven stepped onto the training ground where a female mercenary named Lyra was waiting for him. She was the one who would be teaching him the art of archery. As he approached her, he noticed that Finlye was also there, who greeted him with a smile.

"Good morning Raven," Lyra said, "Today we will be learning how to handle a bow and shoot arrows with accuracy."

Raven was eager to learn and replied, "I'm ready, let's get started."

Lyra explained to him that archery requires a combination of physical strength and accuracy. She showed him how to grip the bow correctly and how to nock an arrow.

"You see Raven, it's not just about pulling the bowstring back and releasing it, it's about finding your balance, breathing and focusing on your target," Lyra said.

Raven took the bow and imitated the stance that Lyra had shown him. He was a fast learner, but Lyra warned him not to progress too fast as archery required patience and practice.

Finlye chimed in, "I can attest to that. I've been practising for months, and I'm still not as good as I want to be."

Raven was surprised, "Really? I thought you were a natural."

Finlye chuckled, "I wish, but the truth is, it takes time and effort to get good at archery."

Lyra added, "And that's why we use magic to enhance our arrows. With the help of magic, we can shoot faster and more accurately."

Raven was fascinated, "How does that work?"

Lyra demonstrated this by shooting an arrow at a target. As the arrow flew through the air, a trail of magical energy followed it. The arrow hit the bullseye with a satisfying thud.

"By imbuing our arrows with magic, we can add extra power and control the trajectory. It's all about finding the right balance between magic and physical strength," Lyra explained.

Raven was amazed and eager to try. He took the bow and tried to shoot an arrow, but it went wide of the mark.

Lyra encouraged him, "Don't worry Raven, it takes time to master the balance. Keep practising and you'll get there."

Raven was determined to keep practising and getting better. He knew that mastering the bow would be vital to surviving on their missions. He and Finlye continued to train under Lyra's guidance, determined to become skilled archers.

The following day, Raven was at the training grounds again, eager to continue with his archery lessons. Lyra, the female mercenary who had taught him the previous day, was already waiting for him.

"Good morning, Raven," she greeted him with a smile. "Today, we'll be working on enhancing your accuracy. Have you ever heard of magic being used to aid in archery?"

Raven shook his head, curious to learn more.

"Well, magic can indeed be used to enhance the power and accuracy of your arrows," Lyra explained. "But, before you can do that, you must train your core to increase your magical prowess. It's like building a foundation for a house. The stronger the foundation, the higher you can build."

Raven nodded, understanding the metaphor. He spent the morning training with Lyra, honing his archery skills and utilizing magic to enhance his shots. He was amazed at how much more powerful and accurate his arrows became with the addition of magic.

Finlye joined them later in the day and watched in awe as Raven shot arrows with pinpoint accuracy. "You're getting excellent, Raven!" he exclaimed.

"Thanks to Lyra's teachings," Raven replied with a grin.

The rest of the day was spent practising and refining their skills. Lyra pushed Raven to his limits, but he was determined to get better. In the end, he was exhausted but felt accomplished.

"You did great today, Raven," Lyra complimented him. "Take a day of rest tomorrow, and then you'll begin your magic training with one of the other cohort members."
