Chapter 9: Old acquaintances

Raven was in the middle of his meditation when he heard a knock on the door. He opened it to find Kargath standing there with a stern look on his face. "It's time for your next training session," Kargath said gruffly. "I've arranged for you to meet with an old friend of mine, the one who recruited you in the tavern. He's going to teach you the basics of swordsmanship and martial arts."

Raven followed Kargath to a secluded clearing in the nearby woods, where he met the mercenary who had recruited him. The man was tall and broad-shouldered, with a rugged face and piercing blue eyes. He introduced himself as Marcus, and he was an experienced swordsman and fighter.

"So, Raven, Kargath tells me you have some potential," Marcus said, sizing Raven up. "But you have a lot to learn if you want to survive in this line of work."

Marcus began the training session by teaching Raven the basics of sword fighting. He showed him how to grip the sword, how to stand, and how to move. Raven was a quick learner, but Marcus pushed him hard, making him perform the same moves over and over until they became second nature to him.

After hours of sword training, Marcus moved on to martial arts. He taught Raven how to throw a punch, how to kick, and how to dodge. Raven struggled at first, but with each passing day, he grew stronger and more confident in his abilities.

As the training sessions went on, Raven grew to respect Marcus. He was a strict but fair teacher, and he pushed Raven to his limits. Raven began to realize why Kargath had chosen Marcus to train him. He was the best in the business, and he was going to make Raven into a formidable fighter.

One day, during a break in the training, Raven asked Marcus why he had decided to recruit him. Marcus took a moment to collect his thoughts before he spoke.

"I saw something in you, Raven," Marcus said. "You have a fire in your eyes, a determination to succeed. And I knew that with the right training, you could be one of the best. That's why I brought you here, to the mercenary group."

Raven was taken aback by Marcus's words. He had never thought of himself as someone with the potential to be great. But with Marcus's encouragement, he realized that he had the ability to achieve great things if he put his mind to it.

As the training sessions continued, Raven's skills improved by leaps and bounds. He learned how to use a sword and his bare hands to defend himself. He grew stronger and more confident in his abilities. And with each passing day, he inched closer to becoming the warrior he was meant to be.
