The Grand Hall of the royal palace lived up to its name. Vast and imposing, it stretched the length of three ordinary ballrooms, its ceiling soaring to dizzying heights supported by ornate columns of white marble veined with gold. Massive chandeliers hung from above, each containing hundreds of enchanted crystals that cast a warm, steady light throughout the space. The far end of the hall featured a raised dais where three thrones stood—the largest for the king, flanked by two slightly smaller seats for honored family members.
Adam stood with Viktor just outside the hall's massive double doors, listening to the hum of hundreds of voices within. The captain had briefed him on protocol during their walk from the Sapphire Suite, explaining that he would be announced after the king had taken his seat, then presented formally to the court.
