Devon
I stand frozen amid the group of arguing people, no one sure what the next move should be. I feel my heart freeze as the cold seeps into me. I’m numb, limbs going weak.
As I slowly sink to the ground, no one notices my knees buried in the dirt.
I look up into the starlit sky, feeling my loss dissipate into the cold void beyond.
I can’t feel her. Never before have I felt so alone. Not even when my own father kicked me out of the only home I’d ever known.
“Devon?” Logan asks, standing up from his position next to his wife. He moves over to me and crouches. “What is it? Talk to me, Devon.”
His liquid blue eyes focus on mine, but my breath is stuck in my throat. I can’t speak. It’s Jenna who speaks instead.
“He can’t feel her. The Bond has been broken,” Jenna’s voice rings out clearly in the cold air. All eyes turn to me, and I feel their fear mix with my own.
