Chapter 39: Hell Unleashed

Devon

As soon as I run through the outer doors, I’m met by a blast of raging heat, flames sprouting from across the plains north of the compound.

A line of witches clothed in black stand at the far side of the pond, palms upturned and spouting tongues of heat.

I watch as man, woman, and anyone else able, shifts from human to wolf, teeth snarling and claws raking the ground. They rush forward to the opposing side, wolves, and people among them.

It’s as if Hell’s door has opened into the mortal world and is spewing the contents of its bowels onto the world. As witches throw potions and conjure spells of fire and lighting, wolves snap their jaws at each other, blood spraying the earth from opened veins.

As soon as my feet hit the open ground, I throw the necklace around my neck, its long chain banging against my chest, and shift. My clothes tear away, but I don’t care. I streak across the burned ground, ignoring the bodies pressing against me.
