Chapter 49: Halloween

Ripley's POV

Jake had made the pack drill almost daily for two weeks now. The tension was palpable, but he had a firm grasp on control of the pack.

Ripley hadn't questioned why he had asked her not to come to training tonight.

It was Halloween, and she was sure that was why.

Tonight was the night. If she was going to be captured and sacrificed to some space goddess, it would be within the next few hours.

Which is why she decided to make it a little easier for Cory.

The thought of sitting in the house and waiting for trouble to come to her made her feel insane. She couldn't deal with what ifs. She was accustomed to taking things into her own hands and fixing them; tonight would be no different.

Jake and the rest of the pack were far enough away that they wouldn't hear her truck's engine roar to life. She slipped in the driver's seat and cranked it, watching carefully to make sure no one was around to notice.
