Chapter 33: Betrayed

“What? This?” Edwin put the letter behind his back. “It’s nothing important really. Unless you have a want for advertisements.”

James narrowed his eyes at Edwin slightly. “I don’t, but last I checked, advertisements don’t come in envelopes.”

He took a couple of steps toward him and reached out, but Edwin stepped back, “Please just—ignore this, it’s nothing important.”

Edwin’s back pressed into the front door as he watched James get closer to him.

Suddenly, James grabbed Edwin’s hand that was in front of his chest and pulled it close, but the cry of pain Edwin let out made him immediately let go. “Edwin! What’s wrong? I didn’t grab you that hard did I?” he asked, carefully taking his hand again.

Looking down at Edwin’s hand his eyes went wide. “Where did you get this burn? What’s going on?”

Edwin let out a soft whimper as he began to tear up slightly, turning his head away from James as he refused to answer. He didn’t know what to do.
