“Today’s the day!” Jen’s overtly cheery voice startled me from my sleep right before she pushed back the heavy curtains of the room that I had been escorted into the night prior. 


Bright morning light flooded the simple modest room, that two of the women who had been introduced to me by Miguel before he left me in their and Calista’s care. I found comfort not only in the warm space but the familiarity of the woman from my home, suddenly thankful that I would have a friend from home while learning all these new names and faces in this new place I was calling home. 


“This is the best they can give their future Luna?” Kitty said as she entered the room followed by Calista who already looked exhausted by the day that had just begun. 


“These aren’t my rooms,” I explained, sitting up in the wide plush bed. “These are just the ceremony preparation rooms.”
