One mistake. That’s all it was. A stupid, drunken mistake. So why the hell was Ren Muchen chasing him down a creepy-ass abandoned hallway like a maniac?!

"You slept with me and ran? Fine! Let’s see how long you last!"

Uh, yeah. No thanks. Yunfeng ran faster, heart pounding—until he skidded to a stop. Right in front of a half-rotten zombie.

"You’re not dying," Muchen said, looking way too smug for someone who just saved his life. "Not today. Not anytime soon."

Yunfeng barely got his breath back before Muchen dropped the biggest bomb ever.

"Because we’re having a baby."

Wait. What?!

Yunfeng clutched his stomach. "H-How do you know?!"

"You KNEW?!" Muchen shook him like a damn rattle. "And you still ran? Take responsibility, you bastard! We made a life!"

Well. Shit. There was officially no running from this.

Muchen glared at Shao intensely, but his friend only panted, gripping the stairwell railing for support.

"Glaring is useless, Muchen. You know what I'm saying makes sense." Shao wiped the sweat off his forehead. "Even if Yunfeng left an hour ago, he wouldn't reach the city for another seven hours. You really think the government would just sit around and let this infection spread unchecked? They'll shut everything down as soon as they can."

After a pause, he continued grimly, "No one can enter. No one can leave."

The weight of his words settled over them like a heavy fog. The stairwell fell into an uneasy silence.

Then, Dr. Qiu Yue finally spoke up.

"If this were any ordinary virus, that would be true. But that's not the case here."

Muchen turned to him, still panting from exhaustion. "What do you mean?"
