CHAPTER 5 “A NEW BEGINNING”

As I stepped out of the warehouse, the bright sunlight and the sounds of the bustling city made me feel a sense of overwhelming freedom. However, with that newfound freedom came the realization that I was a mercenary, a soldier trained to fight and kill. The thought of it made me feel lost, unsure of what to do with my life.

My childhood had been filled with violence and war. I had no family, no education, no skills that could help me lead a normal life. I had been a child soldier, and now that I was free, what was I going to do with my life? I wondered if I would ever be able to escape the horrors of my past.

But then, I remembered what I had learned during my time as a soldier: survival meant fighting, and fighting meant having a purpose. I needed to find a place where I could put my skills to use.

That's when I thought about the PMC, a private military company that operated in the area. I had heard rumors about it from some of the other soldiers in the camp. They said that the PMC was always looking for recruits, and that they paid well.

I took a deep breath and set off towards the PMC's headquarters, my heart pounding in my chest. The thought of joining a private military company was both exhilarating and terrifying. I was nervous, but I was also determined. I wanted to prove to myself and to everyone else that I was capable of something more than just being a child soldier. I wanted to create a new life for myself, one where I could use my skills to help others and make a difference.

I was met at the door by a gruff-looking man who introduced himself as the recruiting officer. He asked me why I was there, and I told him about my past and my skills as a mercenary.

To my surprise, he was impressed by my experience and my determination. He told me that they were looking for soldiers just like me, and that he would be happy to have me join the PMC. "Welcome aboard, soldier," he said with a smile. "Report to the front desk and they'll get you settled in."

As I entered the private military company headquarters, I couldn't help but feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. I was finally going to have a chance to put my combat training to use, to have a purpose in life other than being a hired gun for whoever would pay me.

I walked up to the front desk and introduced myself, "Hi, my name is Ghost. I just joined up as a recruit."

The receptionist gave me a once-over before nodding and directing me to a conference room. "Your team will meet you there," she said.

I made my way to the conference room and was surprised to see a group of four people already seated and waiting for me. One of them, a tall man with a stern expression, stood up and approached me.

"Ghost, I presume?" he asked, holding out his hand. "I'm Captain Taylor, your team leader."

I stepped forward, taking his hand in mine. It was firm and strong, reflecting the confidence and experience that he radiated. "Nice to meet you, sir," I said, trying to hide the nervousness in my voice.

"And you, Ghost," he said with a nod, releasing my hand. "This is Sam," he gestured towards the woman standing next to him, who gave me a friendly smile. "Jake," he said, indicating the man on her other side, who gave a curt nod. "And Matt," he added, pointing to the quiet, reserved guy at the back of the group.

I took a step back and looked at the team. They all seemed like they knew what they were doing, and I felt a flicker of excitement at the prospect of working with them.

"Now, let's get started," Captain Taylor said, clapping his hands together. "I'm going to give you all a rundown of what to expect as new recruits of the PMC. This is a dangerous line of work, and you need to be prepared for anything."

He went on to explain that we would be going through a series of training exercises and simulations, designed to test our abilities and work on any areas that needed improvement. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication, and warned us that the work was not for the faint of heart.

The next few weeks passed in a blur of intense training and bonding with my team. I was surprised at how quickly we became a well-oiled machine, working together to complete each task and improve our abilities. I felt a sense of belonging for the first time in a long time, and I was grateful to have such a talented and supportive team by my side.

One day, Captain Taylor called us all into the conference room and announced that we were ready for our first mission.
