CHAPTER 25: AFTERMATH

I looked at her in the mirror and instantly wanted to reach out. Mira was crying heavily earlier and I know she was as affected as I was because of what Dr. Sanchez told us.

Her face is clouded as she looks outside the window as if she is oblivious of everything.

I can hear Shelley’s voice in the background but I can hardly engage her in a conversation as my attention is split between driving and worrying. Then I felt her hand on my thigh. I held her hand and look at her, then pushed her hand away.

Maybe from her point of view, she still has all the right to do it. That everything- all the previous set-p between the three of us- remains the same. But everything has changed.

And even though I know Mira will never complain even if Shelley and hug in front of her right now, I still feel that it isn’t right. I cannot allow Shelley to do what she did earlier.
