CHAPTER 32: A SECRET

My head is throbbing painfully when I woke up the following day. I got up late because I stayed up late thinking over and over and crying endlessly.

I can feel the palpable emptiness and sorrow, causing me to lose appetite so I turned away from the brunch Manang Olga prepared for me.

“Your husband said he’ll be back in the afternoon to accompany you to the OB-Gyne,” she informed me.

I nodded quietly.

“Please eat well, child. Rodney asked me to wake you up for breakfast but I’ve been trying to wake you up several times yet you wouldn’t budge from your bed.”

“Sorry, Manang.”

I tried to thrust a few spoonfuls of food into my mouth and chewed mechanically before pushing my plate away.

“Mira, you haven’t eaten much. Don’t you like the food? I can prepare a different dish for you.”

“No need Manang Olga. I just don’t feel like eating.”
