Luke was watching over the two from afar. It wasn't intentional, he just happened to pass by after successfully sending out his report to Mr. Hobbs. The moment he saw Marie crying in Neil's arms, he knew he should keep his distance.

That's the thing with childhood friends, after years of being together, there are still some things you don't want them to find out about you. In her case, it's that she's still hung over the fact that she still worries about what her old friends thought of her. It's not that he's unaware, it's just that she is putting in so much effort to make everyone think she's gotten over it when in fact she's just kept it hidden this whole time.

He locked eyes with Neil and smiles. And just like that, he knew their silly fight was over.

He was about to head back when he bumped into Zoey who wore this unusually anxious expression. She apologized absentmindedly and was about to move on when he grabbed her arm.
