Chapter Eight Part One of Two

Marina wakes up at noon, goes downstairs and to the kitchen for lunch.

She smells a wonderful smell and asks:

"Wow what is that good smell?"

"I just made a homemade lasagna of chicken and catupiry. I hope you like it" - Sandra says, taking the lasagna out of the oven and putting it on the table. Then she takes a pot of rice and puts it on the side of the tray and says-"Love, come to lunch-she says to her husband. Then she speaks to Marina"-Come honey, sit down and have lunch with us.

Marina sits down on the chair and arranges her food. Then she washes her plate and goes to her room to stay on Zap chatting with her friends from the orphanage and realizes that she has a different number that spoke to her.

She clicks on the message that says, "Marina, it's me, your brother Thiago." Marina is happy and asks how he is and says that she misses him a lot. Her brother says he is fine and wants to go visit them at the orphanage.

She is at a loss to say that she was adopted. So, she ends up making up an excuse saying that he better visit them later, because the place is under renovation and she knows that he will believe her, because she is not one to lie to anyone.

He agrees and says: "Okay, but when the renovation is over you let me know, I have to leave because my cell phone is running out.

She says goodbye to her brother and sends a message to her sisters telling them what happened and they decide to help, but they warn her that it won't last long because he will find out.

She leaves the internet as she decides to go to the living room to spend some time with her new family.

Marina goes downstairs and finds them in the living room watching television and joins them on the couch and watches a Supernatural marathon.

After she finishes the marathon, the girl eats dinner with her family, takes a shower and goes up to her room.

The next thing she knows, she sees a very nice message from a poem that her friend created for her that reads:

"Leaves are green, tulips are lilac, you are my princess and I will never leave you."

Followed by a picture of the waterfall they went to and underneath another message: "Since the day I saw you, you haven't left my thoughts. I have kept in my mind the little moments we spent together, it may be too soon to tell, but I tell you one thing: I love you."

Marina rereads the message several times without believing what she is reading, but she is at a loss for words because she barely knows him and is afraid of getting hurt and says, "Wow, how beautiful the message Jura, I really loved it."

He then calls her on zap and says:

"I'm glad you liked it. I thought a lot about how to tell you this."

"I don't know what to say."

"You don't have to say anything, just let me make you happy."

"Oh, let's be friends," Marina says a bit clumsily. I'm not ready for that right now.

There's a moment of silence and then he finally says:

"It's okay. I'll wait as long as it takes."

"Jure, don't do that. I don't want you to suffer. I live far away, I can't leave town, and I want to focus on my studies. You deserve to be happy-she says, holding back tears."

"Let's change the subject. Tell me how was your day," says Jurandir.

She goes on telling about what she did in her day and when she realizes, it's already 10:30 pm and she had to hang up to deliver the phone, because now she has a schedule to use the phone due to the punishment.

It dawns and her adoptive parents take her for a walk and decide to travel to Petropolis to visit the Imperial Museum, Crystal Palace and Santos Dumont's House.

The girl is delighted at the thought that she will get out of the house for a while and asks to take her cell phone with her to take pictures, which they allow.

Marina is wearing light blue pants, a white long-sleeved blouse, heeled boots, a black scarf, and a beret in the same color.

They leave home at nine o'clock in the morning and arrive at the site at seven o'clock in the evening. As it is already dark, they decide to go only to the Crystal Palace and take several photos.

They leave the place and go to the pizzeria and order a family-size pizza with Calabresa, Bacon, Mozzarella, and Portuguese. Marina calls them to take a selfie with her adoptive parents and sends it to Dayane with the caption: Having fun in Petrópolis with my new family.

They finish their snack and go to the açaíteria and order three açaís: two with chocolate icing and one with mint icing for Marina.

They finish eating and go to the car to drive home.

Marina feels better during the return trip and says:

"Thank you for the ride. It was a lot of fun."

"I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's getting closer to school time and I have to enroll you. What grade will you be in?" -Sandra asks.

And Marina says:

"First year of high school. I stopped my studies when I went to the orphanage."

"I understand. Tomorrow we'll go with me to your new school."

"That's good."

Marina says and puts on her headphones and on the JB FM station the song from the movie Titanic is playing and she starts singing the final part in English. She doesn't even realize that she is singing it loud and clearly in English.

She only realizes that they heard her singing when Sandra says:

"I didn't know you could sing so well in English"-She says with emotion holding back her tears.

"I used to take Foreign Language classes at my old school. I was taking a course to become a teacher, but now I don't know if I'm going to continue in the Normal Course," she says in a sad voice.

"Where I want to enroll you, there might be a normal course, and this school is the closest to town. You can go there by bike when you learn the way."

"That's good. Where are we again?" says the girl looking out the window, trying to recognize the place.

"We are at the end of the Petropolis Mountains. It will take us a while to get there. If you want to sleep, feel free -Miguel says looking at the track and noticing that it is wet, due to the weather that changed during the trip.
