Chapter Thirteen

Marina doesn't feel jealous, but she still feels betrayed, because he said he really liked her and although she didn't feel the same way, she trusted him and he lied to her.

As she gets closer to the scene, she realizes that it's not Lucas, but another boy who looks a lot like him, and she sees that it's only Diego.

She is relieved to know that it's not who she thought it was and walks to the cafeteria.

Diego realizes that what he did didn't help and lets go of the girl and goes towards Marina, but stops when he sees Lucas approaching her holding her hand.

The two go to the cafeteria and until the girl is managing not to show her sadness.

Marina decides to buy a natural sandwich with a guaravita and Lucas orders a fried snack with grape juice.

Marina's cell phone vibrates and she sees what it is.

Her sister Aline has sent her a message saying:

"I miss you. I wanted to know how you are and when you are going to visit us. Bjs."

"Hi sister. I'm fine and you? Miss you too. I don't know when I will be able to go, but as soon as possible I will reappear."

"Remember that our anniversary is coming up and they are having a party to celebrate and I have to tell you something, but it needs to be by phone."

"What happened?"

She got no answer and decides to call her sister. She answers and says:

"Marina, how nice to hear your voice."

"What happened? Are you okay?"

"Yes, yes, but the one who is not fine is Thiago. He was sick the other day when he found out that you were adopted. I don't know how he found out about it and he is calling me directly and I'm not answering."

"What should I do?"

"I don't know, but you should avoid answering it, too. When I know what to do, I'll tell you.

"Okay. I'm going to hang up, because I have class now."

"Okay."

His sister ends the call and the two of them go into the classroom.

Marina remains airborne throughout the class, wondering what to do to resolve this situation.

The teacher notices that Marina is scattered and says:

"Marina, can you answer this question for me on the board?"

She watches and sees a math account: (3.2)+(50:2).

She is silent and the teacher hands her a rider to answer on the board.

Marina tries to concentrate and answers a little uncertainly:

(3.2)+(50:2)=

6+25= 31///

The teacher is impressed that even though she is distracted she can answer and decides to give the students more assignments.

The class ends at noon and she decides to go home without talking to anyone.

Lucas offers her a ride and she accepts. She puts on her seat belt and the boy says:

"Did something happen?"

"My brother found out I was adopted and is desperate."

"He didn't know anything?-she nodded her head no- How are you going to solve this?"

"I don't know, but I'm going to change my number, because I can't go over there right now and he doesn't think straight in a hot head."

"I understand, but any help just ask, okay?"

"Okay. Thanks."

She gets out of the car when she realizes she is home and gives him a hug and goes inside the house.

The house is empty and she walks up the steps until she reaches her bedroom.

She takes a shower and puts on a pair of shorts and an ordinary blouse and lays down on the bed and listens to music and one of them is called

Me ama (Love me) by the singers from Diante do Trono.

She starts humming a little, because this way she will feel calmer and know that God is with her always.

[...] He's jealous of me. His love is like a hurricane, and I surrender to the wind of his mercy. Then suddenly I no longer see my afflictions I only see the glory And realize how wonderful he is how much he wants me. Oh he loved me. Oh he loves me. He loved me [...]

She ends up sleeping listening to that song and wakes up after a few minutes to her cell phone ringing and it's a message from Diego that says:

"I haven't seen you all day and wanted to know how you were doing."

"I'm fine and you? I saw you today, but you were busy and I decided not to disturb you."

"It was a girl who kissed me. She likes me, but I said I just want friendship."

"I understand, but you don't have to explain yourself to me, because we are friends."

"That's because you want to."

"Diego, I'm not in the mood to talk, okay? I like you, but it's just friendship. I'll talk to you later."

"But you like Lucas, don't you?"

"That only concerns me and him."

Finally she got no answer after that and she put her device aside and went to the kitchen to get something to snack on.

She eventually found her kitten in the kitchen and fed it some milk and found something to eat: carrot cake with chocolate syrup and made a mango juice to go with it.

After she had her snack, she washed the dishes and went to her room when she heard a noise coming from the balcony.

She approached the place until she found a man lying on the ground all bruised and bruised and realized that it was Miguel and his condition was deplorable.

"Stay calm daughter, I just got hurt, but I'll get better soon. Just help me get into the house."

She did as asked and he sat down on the couch with a little difficulty.

Miguel was all bruised up, as if someone had beaten him up a lot, and Marina decided that it would be necessary to call a doctor to take care of him, but Miguel assured her that it was not necessary, that he only needed bandages.

After he washed his face and his adopted daughter helped him with his wounds, he told her:

"I was driving home when some guys approached my car wanting to rob it. Luckily they weren't armed, but I was all bruised up as you can see and I still lost the vehicle."

"Gee, Dad, but you have to do a physical examination."

"It's not necessary dear, I just need to rest for a while and don't tell your mother what happened, because I will tell her myself."

"Don't tell her what?"-says Sandra entering the door and getting a fright when she sees her husband injured and faints at the event.
