A few months have passed and soon Marina's vacation is approaching. She can barely contain herself with happiness, for she knows that as soon as her vacation begins she will be able to go to Sete Lagoas to spend some time with her brothers and her best friend.
During these months, Lucas asked Marina to marry him and she accepted. He went to her adoptive parents' house and talked to them and they got along very well. She was happy with her first relationship, since she had never dated anyone before, and had only received her first kiss from her friend Jurandir.
But unfortunately she has something to focus on at the moment: She is in exam week and has two exams today: Early Childhood Education and Mathematics.
She wakes up Monday at six o'clock in the morning, takes a warm shower, gets ready and goes downstairs towards the kitchen.
Sandra is making a delicious breakfast: coffee and pancakes and they snack in silence. After she finishes eating, she brushes her teeth and picks up her backpack and goes to the bus stop.
On the way to the bus stop, she sees a car and immediately recognizes Lucas. He waves to her and stops the car and she gets in.
"Good morning love-and give you a kiss."
"Good morning. I have a test today and I'm a little nervous."
"You'll do fine princess, you're a great student."
"Thank you and did you study for the exam?"
"Yes. We'll have to stop by my grandmother's house again, because my grandmother she asked me to pick up Diego, I don't know why, since he prefers to go by bus than walk with me."
"Okay. He's kind of shy, but he's nice people. He's just probably not on a good day, since your grandmother asked me to pick him up."
"Yeah, that could be it."
They drive to his grandmother's house and Diego gets into the back seat of the car half sulking. Then they all go on in silence all the way to the school.
When they arrive at the school, Lucas puts the car in the parking lot and his cousin gets out of the car and walks alone to the classroom.
Marina finds his attitude strange and goes after him and says:
"Diego, why are you so strange with me?"
"You barely know him and you are already dating. When you find out who he really is, don't come crying to me, because I've been telling you for a long time.
"What are you talking about?"
"Ask him, because I have better things to do.
He walks off leaving her talking to herself.
Lucas arrives after a few minutes and the two go into the classroom. They arrive a little late in class and the teacher lets them in.
The class begins and in five minutes the teacher starts the test.
She tries to concentrate as much as possible, but Diego's words echo in her mind the whole time, but she decides to leave this matter aside and finish her exam.
The first half ends and the math teacher comes in and gives the test. Her test isn't that hard and as soon as she finishes it she goes home. Her boyfriend takes her home and goes to work.
She gets home and receives a message from her brother saying:
"The vacations are coming sis. I can't wait for the day to come when you will be here again."
"I'm looking forward to it too brother. Will our sisters be able to spend the vacations with us?"
"I don't know. I'll look into that later. I have to go to work now. Bye, see you later."
She texts Lucas who says:
"Do you have any secrets to tell me?"-13:40
"No, why the question?"-13:44
"No reason love. It's just curiosity really. Good job. Bjs"-13:46
"Thank you my love. I'll come by later. Te amo."-13:47
She leaves the message in a vacuum and decides to go for a bike ride around town.
She changes clothes and puts on a pair of jeans shorts, a thin-sleeved beige blouse and a pair of flip-flops. She takes some money and puts it in her pocket and leaves the house.
She decides to go to the park for a ride and goes pedaling slowly, walking a bit aimlessly.
She stops in front of the popcorn vendor and buys some sweet popcorn and sits down on the bench in the square in silence. Suddenly she looks over and sees someone who looks like Lucas holding a baby in his hands and when she looks closer she is surprised to see that it is really him.
She puts her hand in her pocket and realizes that she left her cell phone at home and tries to approach the place to better hear the conversation.
"... You have to take care of him too Lucas. He is your son."
"Milena, I give everything to him, but you know I have to get on with my life."
"Sure, now that you've met this girl you've forgotten you have a son!"
"Keep your voice down, because there might be someone you know around here."
"And what's the problem? She doesn't know you have a son no?"
Marina doesn't wait for him to answer and leaves the place crying, but without making any noise.
She takes her bicycle and leaves the place in tears. She almost hits someone, but she sidesteps and arrives home in fifteen minutes.
Marina puts the bike on the porch and goes into the house and begins to cry. She lies down on her bed and begins to sob.
After a few minutes her cell phone rings and she sees written on the screen: Lucas
She lets it ring and then a bunch of messages starts to arrive from him. She ignores all the SMS and turns off her cell phone.
She ends up falling asleep and wakes up in a few hours and realizes that it is already night. She gets out of bed, washes her face and goes downstairs to the kitchen.
When she gets to the living room she sees her parents sitting and her boyfriend on the couch with them talking. He approaches her and tries to hug her, but she turns away and calls him over to talk.
They go to the balcony and when he goes to kiss her she says, her heart hurting and racing:
"When were you going to tell me you have a child?"-she says with a tear in her eye, feeling everything inside her crumble and knowing that his answer could change a lot in their relationship.
