Chapter Nineteen: The trip
A few days passed and finally the date arrived for Marina to travel to see her brothers and friends in Sete Lagoas.
Sandra wakes her up at six o'clock in the morning and says:
- Daughter, get up, so you don't miss the time of your travel bus.
- I'm coming, Mom," Marina replied with a smile on her lips as she finished packing her suitcase.
She grabs her suitcase, cell phone, charger and headphones and heads downstairs to the kitchen. Her foster mom is making chicken pot pie and grape juice.
The girl goes to the table and thinks about how the trip is going to be, but mainly about last week's dream, because she is having this dream repeatedly.
She comes out of her reverie when Miguel asks:
- Is everything all right darling?
- Yes, Dad. I'm just thinking. I've finished my coffee, can we go, I'm very anxious.
- Yes we can my princess. I'll take your bag to the car. I'll meet you in five minutes.
- That's fine.
She answers and quickly washes the dishes, brushes her teeth and takes her main accessories, putting them in her lilac bag on the side, says goodbye to Sandra - who starts crying - and asks her to be careful and gets in the car, heading for the bus station.
After a twenty-minute drive, they arrive at the bus station and Marina buys the ticket to Sete Lagoas.
She feels like she's dreaming on the outside, but on the inside she has a bad feeling, but hopes it's nothing.
After a few minutes, the bus arrives and the girl boards, but first she gives Miguel a tight hug and climbs into the vehicle.
Her seat is 42 and it is at the window. She takes her headset and waits until the bus is started.
After five minutes the vehicle starts and she watches the weather, which is cloudy. She opens her backpack and takes a packet of chocolate cookies and eats them during the trip.
Her cell phone beeps indicating that she has a new message. She opens it and smiles as she reads:
"Good morning Mari. Are you coming already? I can't wait for you to arrive soon. When you arrive, text me-Jura."
"I'm on the bus. I'll be there in a few hours and I'm really looking forward to it too and I miss you."
She gets off her cell phone and takes advantage of the fact that there is still a long time to go and takes a nap and in the meantime she has a good dream.
Marina arrives in Sete Lagoas and finds her friend waiting for her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
When she gets off the bus, he approaches her and says:
"I bought it for you. I hope you like it".
And she replies:
"I loved it. That's my favorite flower."
They are beautiful daisies and in the middle of the bouquet there is a note. She picks it up carefully and reads: "To the most beautiful of flowers. I still love you, but I will wait for your time".
She smiles and approaches it. He puts the bouquet on the bus station bench and hugs her smelling her scent, she returns the hug and when they were going to kiss....
Marina wakes up out of nowhere and realizes that this was just a dream. She checks the time and it's still 08h30. And it is still four and a half hours before she arrives at her final destination.
Since she knows she won't be able to sleep anymore and is almost arriving in Além Paraíba, she decides to take her cell phone and put it on YouTube and listen to random songs to distract her mind.
Everything was quiet until she heard a strange noise coming from the bus engine and suddenly the vehicle stopped.
The driver opens the door leading to the seats and says:
- Stay calm it is only the air conditioning that has stopped working and for that reason the vehicle cannot move. Please, passengers, get off the bus for safety reasons.
She got off the bus and took her wheelie bag with her, because she will know what can happen in the meantime.
Two hours pass and the bus is not running again and when she thinks there is no solution, her cell phone rings.
"Sis, are you coming?"
"There was something wrong and the bus has been stopped for more than two hours."
"Stay calm and explain to me exactly where you are...
"We are at the top of the Teresópolis mountain range."
"I'll come and get you."
He hangs up and she waits for him until his brother arrives.
Meanwhile, her cell phone vibrates and she sees the name "Lucas" on the screen. She thinks about ignoring it, but changes her mind.
"Mari, how are you? Have a good trip. I'm sorry for what happened. Did you send me any messages these days?"
"Not that I remember. I'm fine and thank you, but I'm on a trip. Bye."
He doesn't respond and she chooses to listen to music, one of them called Signs by singer Luan Santana.
After what had been decades, her brother arrived with his black car and talked to the bus driver showing the documents proving that he was a family member and so they went to the car, heading to Sete Lagoas.
The trip was not so long, but the two stopped halfway for a snack, as it was almost one o'clock in the afternoon and they had not eaten properly.
They went to Bob's and ate two combos that came with a can of coke, a portion of fries and an x-all.
After snacking, they returned to the trip and so arrived in Sete Lagoas at 5 pm in the afternoon and Marina soon sent a message to her friend informing her that she had already arrived and then she receives a message:
"Meet us in the Square at 6pm-Dayane."
"Okay. I'll talk to my brother first and give you the answer - Marina."
She asks Thiago and he lets her, as long as she waits for him in the square at 9 pm for them to take a walk and he still says:
- There is a surprise for you, but you will only know later. Come on, I'll show you where I'm living.
- That's good.
He continued driving until he reached a village - on a clay road - and soon she recognized the place, as she had gone there a few months ago with her friends where there was a waterfall nearby.
The house her brother lives in is not big, but it is very beautiful. It is painted light blue and has a chimney that enchanted the girl.
After putting the car in the garage, her brother gets out of the vehicle and the two enter the house.
When they arrive, Thiago shows them a small room next to the living room with a lilac curtain.
The bed is double and pink and white wood with a handle with a bed just below, a bedside table and a white lamp in the corner of the room.
He puts her at ease and she puts some of her clothes in the dresser and separates a short white dress embroidered on the front and a pink sandal, to go out with her friends. She takes her towel and leaves the room.
When she leaves she looks for the bathroom, but on the way she comes across the photo of her parents with the family gathered and tears come down from her eyes. She wipes with her thumb and goes down a small corridor and finds the bathroom at the first door on the right.
She enters the small room and takes a relaxing bath washing her hair and using a shampoo for straight hair that she found on the spot.
After twenty-five minutes she finishes, tidies up and wraps her hair in the towel and goes to her room.
She combs her hair and leaves it loose, does a basic makeup using only a light pink eyeshadow and a gloss on her lips and tells her brother that she is going out.
- Thiago, I'm coming.
- That's good. Go carefully and wisely hein. Anything you call me.
- That's good.
Your brother gives you a hug and says:
- How you've grown, girl. I missed you so much.
- I missed you too.
- Now go have fun.
She leaves the house and walks for about 10 minutes until she reaches the square where she finds her friend sitting on the bench.
When she sees her she hugs her tightly and says:
- I miss you so much-and she pulls her into a hug that seems to have no end-"Come on, tonight is promising.
