The time was ticking down very quickly, but the referee called for the captains to come over to go to the sideline, and to no surprise, it was Samuel and Rowan who went over to the side. Samuel seemed to be talking big because Rowan was raising an eyebrow over to the other guy acting as if he was a fool.
She watched as the referee conducted a coin toss after leaning over to ask each of them a question to which Samuel who was crossing his arms answered first then Rowan.
The coin flipped into the air into the referee's hand to which Samuel frowned and Rowan smirked leading to him hitching a thumb over his shoulder to choose the field that was behind.
The referee nodded before shooing the two boys back to their positions, and Alice's attention returned to the billboard to which the timer was about to hit zero.
The buzzer of the timer started just as the referee in yellow blew the whistle to formally start the soccer game. The ball started on the gold side, and they started the kick-off. The start was pretty anti-climatic as the ball immediately got pushed to the outward half away from the audience as the teams battled it out to try and get possession of the soccer ball.
They were working so hard at it, and there were a lot of back-and-forth moments, but they were good so there was no need to say anything else. She leaned over to Claudia to whisper, "They're good. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it."
Claudia smiled at her words, and they both watched the game in silence.
Alice raised her phone to record some moments, and she cheered whenever a team tried to shoot since she didn't have a particular team to side on only to hear Berlyn and Carissa yell out their hearts making Alice grin despite her ears starting to ring at their high pitched cheers which pointed out their dedication.
She laughed when a dude went flying trying to get a head-ball only to miss it completely making some laugh out loud and others groan. A mark of a true prankster in Alice's opinion. She did immediately figure out who Rowan was without much scrutiny even though she didn't exactly know what he looked like.
After much tussle, someone from the red team was able to get the ball over to the right corner on the audience side to Rowan, and Alice realized that everyone was sitting much closer to the field than she had first thought. She watched his back as he received the ball with much ease and with a light touch forward, he was able to direct his energy in that direction.
His light brown hair was cropped close to his head, and he was wearing his red band around his ankle rather than his arm. Even in a plain white t-shirt, she was able to see how toned his body was, and his long legs ate up the long field like nobody's business. People would hush whenever he got the ball since they knew that he was going to do something magnificent with it.
He ran over towards the goal with his eyes glued on his target rather than his feet and took a shot six feet away. Alice covered her gasp from shock as the soccer ball glided through the air gracefully only to hit the top post, and the goalie in his neon green suit jumped up for it with the ball grazing his fingertips only for it to bounce off the post and inside the netting of the goal.
The crowd erupted in cheers as people were in awe of the goal, and some even started jumping making the whole stands shake. Alice laughed as she held onto Claudia for support. "Is it always this hectic?"
Carissa nodded with a grin. "It only gets more amped up later."
"I can't even imagine that," Alice said. "He's really good, and I've only seen like five minutes of his play."
"He's certainly good," Sophie agreed. "That goal was crazy good."
His teammates ran over to amp him up, and Rowan grinned with good energy while the other team shook it off. Alice wanted to point out that the gold team was definitely doing well and holding their ground. It was hard to go up against someone in their own zone and turf since it was their home ground where they trained endlessly.
"Good job, Samuel," Claudia whistled loudly.
Alice covered her ears but was surprised to see Rowan turn around to side-eye the stands with a touch of a frown on his lips with Samuel waving over to her.
Rowan brushed off the sweat from his forehead with the back of his arm as he looked over to the audience once more. Alice snorted out a laugh while Claudia only sighed out a long breath when he raised an eyebrow and turned back.
