There was a moment when she was worried his parents would return when she got back to his place but then realized that Noah said that he had not seen them for a long time. She would take care of him as best as she could in their stead, knowing that his parents were missing out on their lovely son.
Alice tried to remember all that her own mother did to care for her when she was sick so that she could provide the best care for Noah. She went back and forth, carefully checking on Noah while making her little soup in the kitchen, making sure that she wasn't making a mess and putting things back to where they came from.
She wanted to leave everything looking untouched as it was when she first came in. Alice knew that she wasn't the best cook but at least she could say that she pretty decent. The chicken stew that Alice was making had a lot of ginger and vegetables to make sure that he could keep his strength up if he ate.
For protein, chicken itself may be hard to digest, so she opted for soft tofu for him on a light stomach. She was curious about the place since the penthouse had two floors, but she didn't dare go up and look. The glass staircase was to the right of the kitchen, and the view of outside from the sky-high living was incomparable.
Twinkling lights were there to join her as she cooked. Alice didn't want to stand away from the stove for too long in case anything went wrong. Looming by the door, she checked in on Noah who was sleeping peacefully. She changed the wet towel on his forehead pretty often after putting the new thermometer in his mouth.
His temperature was way too high. But as the hours ticked by, it reduced little by little. She let the chicken broth simmer for a while since Noah was likely not hungry after eating earlier.
After she cleaned up the kitchen, she came back to his room to turn on the tiny lamp pushed to the side of the room to give her some light while she did some work.
The homework she needed to do was only a light research paper, so she flicked her attention up every so often from her laptop screen to see the sleeping figure in bed. She opened the window slightly to air out the room since it was getting a bit stuffy, making sure to not leave it open for too long to have a draft.
She was typing on her paper and finished it in good time. Alice submitted the paper after doing some editing, typing more comments only to look up to see that Noah was the one watching her as if to check if she was still there.
Alice smiled at his lost gaze which made it seem as though he had no thoughts and glanced down at the paper before back to him.
Finishing up her work, he was out again when she went to get him some water. As an only child, she had never needed to look after anyone before. Still, this felt like it was out of reins. Yet, she still didn't want to give it up. Normally, she would have walked away with no problem, but nowadays, with Noah tied to the name, she was there.
Brushing back his hair, it was getting late. After putting the health thermometer in his mouth, the small device beeped, and Alice examined the number. Biting her bottom lip, Alice didn't know what she should do. His fever went down, but it was still high enough that she didn't want to leave him alone without anyone to check in on him.
Alice gripped her phone and made her decision. Texting her parents that she would be at Claudia's place for the night, her parents agreed. No matter how much her parents liked Noah, it likely wasn't going to fly if she admitted that they were alone. She texted Claudia to take one for the team.
Claudia had her own suspicions since Alice wouldn't tell her what the favor was for but agreed happily after Claudia told Alice to send a picture of her and Noah later. Alice covered her mouth with her hand shocked.
How did Claudia know so much? She eventually sighed and left it at that and prayed that her parents wouldn't get too angry when she came clean tomorrow.
It was the first time was doing something like this. Secrets were what broke trust. For now, she also pushed that away and charged her phone with Noah's charger by the bed. Alice still had not found Noah's phone, and she laughed lightly at the pain of him trying to find it tomorrow.
