Chapter 23: I’m a Liar, Fraud, and Cheater

I don’t know how I left the ballroom, but I was out in seconds after I heard all that disgusting whispering. What’s worse was that I’m sure others heard too. We’re all wolf shifters; we all have great senses of hearing.

Striding past a group of Guards, I didn’t see any of them. My eyes were clouded with angry tears, and I was not in the mood and shook my head when one asked to escort me.

Escort me. Guard me. Protect me. I don’t need that from them! I don’t want that from them!

I opened a door into a side corridor and closed it with a slam so loud it rattled even me. My shoes were painful. I kicked them off. I wasn’t fit to wear high heels.

My wolf was raging beneath my skin, tearing at my insides and crying out. I could feel her as she felt me. I was losing control. My breaths were coming out short, but I didn’t sit. I couldn’t sit.

I needed to run.

Gathering my heavy gown into my fists, I ran down the corridor and out the exit, which led to a pitch black outside.
