Once upon a time there was a woman named Ligaya . Ligaya is a slave in a rich family, the Herrera family.

One day, the only daughter of the Herrera came from Spain, Ma. Theresa Eleanor Herrera. To marry the man their parents had arranged for her to marry. Ligaya was assigned to take care of Theresa while preparing for the wedding. Theresa is amazed with Ligaya's beauty and intelligence as a mere servant, and Ligaya is impressed by Theresa's humility and natural kindness.
