Lack Of Luck

"Looks like someone already beat the minotaur" remarked an unremarkable barbarian-looking man, scratching the back if his head with one of his two axes.

"What sort of maniac goes into dungeons so early?" wondered another man, just as plain as the barbarian but dressed like a mage instead.

Since the easiest fight had already been completed, they instead settled for the next one, which wasn't much more difficult and thus, within their capabilites, especially since it was far from the first time they were going to complete it.

Like many adventurers, they made their bread and butter by only dealing with the simple bosses of Defy, gaining some lesser artefact if they were lucky or some nice weapon to sell off.

They lacked the means to deal with the third boss due to a bad match-up and after that, they were too strong for them to not get hurt in the fight and having to find healing would put a dent in their earnings, thus, they stayed with the bosses they could deal with without even getting scratched.

Unfortunately for them, someone else was already in front of the arena for the second boss and adventurer courtesy said that 'first come, first served'.

"Damn, neither today again? I might get evicted at this rate" the barbarian shook his head, ready to just turn back and find something else to do.

However, the mage put a hand in front of him.

"Don't give up so hastily, we can just ask this guy politely" the mage strolled up to the hooded person that was sitting on the ground, facing the entrance to the boss arena.

Getting closer, he noticed that this adventurer was particularly small.

"Excuse me, would you mind-..." the small adventurer, his face looking like it was made of nothing but white fur turned his head immediately and rose his arm, his hand also covered in fur.

His gesture was clear, he was telling them to go for it.

"For real?" the mage didn't actually believe that asking nicely would work, usually everyone was stingy as hell.

He called up his teammate, telling him to hurry up when the furball finally spoke up.

"A two-man team huh? Unusual" he said with a voice the two adventurers would have prefered not to hear.

They both stepped into the room hastily, not waiting for the unknown adventurer to change his mind, not noticing as he casually walked in with them without a noise before the door closed up.

The second boss was much like the minotaur, as in that it shouldn't count as a boss, for it was just one of those pig-faced orcs, the monster variety of these beings were quite a fair bit stronger than their intelligent kin but ultimately, a well placed spell could kill one instantly.

The pig on two legs tried to rush at them, making his sizeable belly go up and down, he was going to just run into a bolt of pure mana and have his skull pierced by the mage.

Only that instead of that happening, he felt something bitting one of his ankles, making the spell hit the ceiling instead.

The mage tried to shake off whatever had bitten him, only to realise that it was already gone, the barbarian turned to his friend, not having any clue what had happened, only for him to blinded in one eye as something slashed at him.

They had never seen it coming.

Axio pushed himself away from them by taking support on the barbarian's head, who failed to notice that he had been there.

Unlike the raging minotaur, the orc stopped in his track as he saw the small being that had appeared out of nowhere turn into a blur and completely vanish.

Having had a premium seat to see what he had done to two adventurers, the orc turned in all directions wildly, trying to check if his back had already been invaded, swinging his crude wooden club as if he was trying to hit a mosquito.

Mosquitoes didn't have even half of the wretch's evasiveness however and barely a second after the orc had checked his back and found nothing, he felt something pierce his nape, all of his thoughts halted, he lost the little will he had within the dungeon and fell in the hands of an even worst master.

Barely a few moments had passed and the two adventurers had already managed to gather their wits back, right at the perfect time to witness Axiolypito standing on the shoulders of the orc, who now had a completely different posture, no more of the bestial unpredictability was to be seen now.

It was instead replaced by an enigmatic calmness, this unnatural and uncanny expression on the orc's pig face sent shivers coursing down their spines, as if the orc had just risen from the dead.

The mage hurriedly prepared a spell, chanting something to reinforce the mana bullet but had the words stuck in his throat as the wretch vanished from his sight.

The mage didn't have what it took to even see the blur left behind, the barbarian did but even if he had had both of his eyes operational, he wouldn't have been able to see anything past the blur.

Dropping the spell he was casting, the mage instead focused on mana detection, alas, the little fiend's mana was so little, he blended in perfectly the heavy mana permeating the dungeon, although, he realised something else.

He snapped his head back at the original adversary, having noticed that he was on the move again.

However, instead of seeing the running mass of fat coming his way, he saw a close-up of the monster's club, right before it smashed into him, snapping his feeble mage spine and folding him onto himself.

The barbarian had seen this going on but before he had been able to inform his party member, his lower and upper jaw had suddenly distanced themselves more than should be allowed as both of his cheeks were sliced open.

A stream of blood fell to the ground as he heard an annoying voice.

"Huh, looks better on me" spoke Axio, standing right next to the unsuspecting barbarian with his hands in his pockets.

The adventurer instinctively swung at his position, only hitting air.

"Good to know your kind can't even follow me a little bit" he added, now right behind him, still having the old knight in mind, who had totally adapted to his speed, unlike those two fools who wouldn't ever be able to do so.

The barbarian would have roared in anger as he turned around had he been able to make a sound, swinging both axes down on the little bastard.

However, Axio didn't even move this time as both of the barbarian's arms were caught by his new servant.

"Alright then, now let's test where a 'strong man' like you, is susceptible to my claws" ever since the moment the wretch had pushed the needle claw into the orc, the doors had opened up.

It was just a shame none of those two bothered to check on that, since the orc had still been standing, it never crossed their minds.

Quickly, since anyone could now see what was going on inside, the wretch did his tests before having the orc return in position, today, the two of them would be taking care of anyone that tried stepping in there.

'Hopefully, I can get something useful with the XP I'll rack up' he though as he hid behind the orc.
