Homecoming

She stood over the spot that nameless wretch had been slain upon.

Then, she circulated her golden energy up to her eyes, causing her emerald green eyes to be surrounded by a bright light.

As expected, she couldn't find a trace of either Axiolypito or that wretch, it had been too long, she couldn't get any grasp of anything they should have left behind.

Maintaining the circulation of it for a bit longer, she turned to the city.

She only had bad memories about it, the only time she had entered it was to be put in an orphanage, she remembered that Morly would sometime pay her a visit and such, but it was still awful in her eyes.

Superstes's eyes widedened dangerously as the golden energy flickered out of her eyes like flames for an instant.

She began walking forward, pushing open the closed gate like it wasn't even a minor inconvenience, the guards posted nearby tried to say something but went mute and just backed off without doing anything.

The heroine moved toward the city center, unhindered as everyone made way for her.

In the middle of the city, two monsters could be found.

The two of them were large, at least two and a half meter tall and with physiques befitting of such heights.

Both had bluish skin and smalls bumps on their forehead.

Judging by their attires, they were affiliated with the monster army, probably here to keep an eye on this town.

Whether or not their job was supposed to include snacking on the inhabitant was dubious at best, but Superstes didn't care about the reasons.

The two appeared as a couple, one male, one female, Superstes guessed they were some giant trolls or some sort of ogres.

The female was busy ripping apart a corpse further away, squishing the lifeless body above her open mouth to let the blood flow down.

The male was closer and had his back turned to Superstes, he seemed to just be done with his own corpse, sucking and licking his bloodied fingers as if he had just finished a delicacy.

Everyone in the city seemed to ignore the events taking place, only indicating that this was far from being the first time.

"Mmmh?" the male felt something weird and turned around a bit, looking over at the blonde girl with a look of disinterest.

'What could-'

"AAh! What-?!" however, his expression quickly changed as he backed away as if he was a frightened cat.

"Oh! Just little human" he seemed to gather himself upon realising that Superstes wasn't what he had first believed.

The female looked over at the scene but didn't think much of it, more preocuppied by her own meal.

"What you want?" his speech was rough but perfectly understandable, yet, Superstes didn't bother to respond.

The monster scanned her up and down, she wasn't dressed up in anything too special, brown pants, muddied black boots and a greenish, loose shirt.

"What the problem, twig?!" he was quickly getting impatient, the brightest hadn't been sent to look over a small town like this one, most low populated areas were watched over by lackluster monsters like him and his mate.

With little intelligence, but still, plenty of brawn to handle anything the townspeople could try to pull up.

He looked down upon Superstes, who wasn't exactly small either, at least for a human woman but her lanky build still made her look minuscule before the monster.

"Will-" before he could complete another sentence, he made a crucial mistake.

He blinked, and in that instant, she had disappeared from his sight and simething was tugging on his lower jaw.

"Huh?" his meagre self couldn't compute what had happened, nor what was happening, he was still busy wondering about how Superstes had vanished when his lower jaw was ripped off without any resistance.

"AAAAH!" he let out a loud scream as he tried to reach for where his missing body part used to be, only getting rivers of blood to cover his hands.

In his intense pain, he still looked over to his mate, expecting some assistance in this harrowing situation, but all he saw was the top of her skull being separated from her head as his very own lower jaw was sent flying at her.

Her eyes rolled back inside of her head and she began twitching as if being electrocuted before going completely limp.

His shocked gaze fell upon Superstes, who was casually checking if any blood had gotten on her.

Without hesitation, the monster did what it could do best and tried to swing his fist at her, even when overtaken by fear, it seemed like his subconscious still decided to fight rather than flee.

He put his while weight into hit, pretty much throwing himself to the ground with it, only for the heroine to sidestep his huge fist and without waiting, she jumped up on his back now that he was on the floor.

Manifesting Slaughter Lord's Mastery's as a spear, she stabbed the monster in the back of the head, twisting her weapon with a sickening noise for good measure.

Superstes shook her head whilst still standing on the monster's corpse.

'I won't gain much if I only deal with monsters of this level...' she sighed, her blade wouldn't be sharpened in this way, she needed to be pushed around some more, those two monsters had nothing that could pressure her.

She could have dealt with the two of them with only one hand, they had strength but were way too slow and not that durable.

The townsfolk looked at her with gaping jaws, they weren't expecting anyone to step up to those monsters, especially now that Gonas wasn't the mayor anymore, he had been moved elsewhere, otherwise he would have already begun hostilities with the occupying monster forces.

He wouldn't be one to allow his citizens to be eaten without retribution.

Finally, an old lady moved forward and spoke up:

"Girl, how will we explain this when an envoy comes to check on them?" she said in a shaky voice.

"Well, when is this envoy coming?" Superstes wasn't fazed, it was to be expected that those two idiots wouldn't be fully trusted to keep things in check.

"Hum... A week, at most, I suppose?"
