The combativity she displayed despite looking like a walking corpse caused a moment of hesitation amongst the monsters around her, for a second, none dared to move forward.
This only applied to those on the ground and in the sky, the ranged units didn't attack either but they all readied themselves to shoot at the first occasion.
Superstes only noticed the slight tremor when it was too late, four claws already protruding from the ground, stabbed right through her left foot.
None of those digging underground had chosen to attack until now, probably because the amount of monster moving around prevented them from pinpointing the exact location of the heroine, right now, they knew where she was and one had taken the initiative.
It was commendable but this attack would be its last one.
Superstes ripping her foot away, breaking its claws and then stabbing her brilliant blade right through the ground and the monster.
Yanking her blade out, leaving a clean cut on the street, the monsters had already gotten over their momentary shock and were going in for round two.
Closest to her was a crocodile looking bipedal monster but the most imminent danger was a living statue wielding a spear, the latter's attack would reach her first.
Raising her blade to deal with it, one of the monsters up on the rooftops saw its opportunity, made entirely of crystals, it had been shaping and condensing a small bullet of mana for the majority of the fight.
Its firepower wasn't anything too impressive, so rather than try to go for a killing blow, it targeted something else.
The bullet moved at moderate speed, on its own, this monster would have never hit Superstes, even with outrageous luck, but she had her hands full, an attack lacking the strength to severely wound her went under her radar.
Just as she began focusing to extend the blade and pierce the living statue, her weapon was knocked out right out of her hand.
The blade was sent spinning away, above the mass of monsters, far from her reach.
'Crap!' the spear lodged itself right into her guts and the claws of the crocodilian tore a chunk out of her back, pushing her further into the blade at the same time.
The living statue gripped its spear with all the strength it could muster, its stone body creaking under the effort as it went to rip its spear out and spill the heroine's guts onto the street.
Just a little nudge and her death would be guarranted.
Time seemed to stop, not only for Superstes but also the statue as it realised that its spear was no longer moving, it was stuck in blade, utterly so.
It felt like it was trying to remove a legendary sword from stone, simply impossible.
The handle of its spear broke first, causing the monster to fall to the ground due to how much effort he had put into trying.
Its head right next to Superstes's injured foot, it didn't see it moving.
The pieces of rock scattered in the air as the living statue no longer lived.
The kick produced a bright light, blinding all of the monster, the ranged units shot their projectiles by accident, some of the flying ones crashed to the ground, the ground units stumbled back.
Even the ones underground where somehow blinded by the glow.
Once everything was settled, their gazes landed on the heroine, who was removing the spear blade from her stomach, blood fell like a cascade and with the right angle, one could get a good look at some of her organs.
This time, their hesitation did not last a mere second, none of them wanted to even move.
The light had been so much brighter than the ones that had come before, it had instilled a deep sense of fear into their hearts.
The monsters looked at one another, knowing that their assaults shouldn't be stopped any longer than that, still, none stepped forward.
The redcap had made himself small, hiding behind the legs of a mage, he couldn't understand how the venom had so little effect on her, in fact, it seemed to have no effect at all right now!
'Did she lose too much blood? The toxin evacuated that way? Is she actually immune to its effects?' his teeth chattered as if he had been doused in icy cold water.
He stopped when he saw a monster leap above the crowd and land in front of the heroine, who remained still, just staring at her hands like a maniac.
'Thank the queen!' the goblin felt better seeing this monster taking charge.
It had landed with loud crash, jolting everyone out of their stupor, behind its hulking figure, two other monsters pushed through the crowd.
'Helsincer, Vismarck and Bleight' the redcap's expression brightened and so did everyone's else.
Everyone else was riff-raff compared to them.
Helsincer, the one that had jumped over everyone, was a tortoise monster, of nigh unparalelled constitution, resistance and vitality, only Undying Prophet had been more unkillable than he was, at least in the eyes of the monsters.
Not only could he come unscathed of incredibly powerful attacks, even if he was blown apart, his body would regenerate to its peak in just an instant!
He had even once survived inside of an active volcano, he was simply invincible in everyone's eyes.
Which was why even the proud vampire and grim shadow had let him go first.
'Nothing could happen to him' was what they thought.
"Huh? Where is your weapon? You know, the laser woosh-wooshy thingy?" he wasn't the brightest though and definitely suicidal.
"I wanna see what that can do to me! Someone! Give her a blade-" he shooted out but the words got stuck in his throat as Superstes casually cracked her neck.
Her face and entire body looked all messed up, she looked more like ghoul than some of said monsters present in the crowd.
"No need" she cracked a distorted smile, her eyes opened to their utmost limit, Superstes looked like she was high on drugs.
"I like your confidence!" not smart enough to feel fear, Helsincer used every defensive ability and techniques he had as he puffed out his chest.
On top of his absurd defenses, he wore an armor than had the exact same properties as he did, meaning that he was essentially twice as durable and unkillable as normal.
His reputation an as immortal cockroach had been earned without this armor.
And yet, Supertes was going to only use her fist against him.
'It packs much more power than what her frail body would suggest, outputting such strength when at death's door is truly impressive, but...'
"It isn't nearly enough!" Helsincer declared.
Superstes was confident, as her fist was just on the verge of colliding with the armored tortoise, as if she had known its name for all of her life, she too, declared something aloud.
"Golden Glow!"
