Chapter Twenty-Three: The Missing Professors

Haibara's POV

The Japanese tradition for Yoshida Ayumi-san's funeral came held to the Shinto Shrine. All members of her family and other relatives are in there to pray for Yoshida-san's soul to rest in peace.

Mouri-san and her Dad, Kudo-kun, Tsubaraya-kun and Genta-kun with their family, Hattori-san and Toyama-san, and Suzuki-san with her family were also praying for Yoshida-san's death. Agasa Hakase was also inside.

I couldn't bear to stand the funeral for our late friend. My heart pangs in unbearable pain as I watched all of them wearing black clothes with those masks wrapped with raw emotions of pure despair.

It was all my fault. I thought as I looked up to the sky. It was in color, dark grey, clouds getting heavy as the chilly wind came into contact with my skin.

The weather seemed to match the mood of the people at Yoshida-san's funeral today.

Oh, well. How unlucky that I am not the one who's in a funeral right now.

I wish I am in Yoshida-san's position right now. It must be me who's dead right now if she didn't block herself in front of me.

It was all my fault. The reason why she's dead is because of me.

After the funeral, I found myself staring at a blank wall in my room. My legs were clasped together as my arms hugged them tightly.

I buried my face as I felt the wet tears came falling down my cheeks.

I still felt guilty because of what happened even though I knew there's nothing to be guilty of.

Yoshida-san dodged it for me to be alive and be in this position of life right now. She sacrificed herself for the sake of my life.

And now, I felt so discouraged to live longer.

How could I possibly live normally when I felt guilty about her death?

Hayley's POV

I planned to go to Jimmy's house for a visit about his condition.

I walked pass the gate and not bothered to knock at the main door. I'd just got in easily as I want to.

I put the basket down to the living room coffee table and sat down the sofa comfortably as I waited for them to come home.

I knew they were at the funeral. One of my 'officers' told me.

I smirked as I scrolled down on my social media about their continuous mourning for their friends.

Sorry, guys. You don't deserve to die but oh well, you're disturbing so I think that's the prize of being a wall for my plans.

I closed my phone as I stood up and looked around at the empty-looking house. There are no living things here except for me so I think I should get myself a little bit of tour inside, I guess.

I decided to go to the library for books to read while waiting for my beloved.

Four hours later...

"What are you doing here?!" I flinched as I heard the familiar's voice shouting loudly at me.

I looked up to see SJimmy frowning with his hand holding the knob of the library door. One door was only opened but no light strikes from behind because of the dark sky outside.

"Ahm... Reading?" I said, giving him an awkward smile.

"Shinichi?" My blood boiled quickly as I heard that bastard's voice into the place. She walked beside JImmy and peek through behind him as I froze in my spot holding a book in my hands. "Oh... It's Hayley," she stated and looked at Shinichi. "It's Hayley, Shinichi. Your girlfriend from America, remember?"

"My girlfriend? No, no. What are you talking about? Ran, you're my girlfriend, not her," Shinichi replied.

My heart beats in a fast speed like a racing car as I felt my blood rushing upwards through my body. "Jimmy, I'm your girlfriend! Can't you see she's just a supportive friend of yours?"

"Wait, miss. Let me make myself clear okay? I'm not your boyfriend and you're not my girlfriend. Stop making such stories because I don't buy it anymore."

"But I'm saying the truth! Babe, I'm your girlfriend. Right, Rachel?"

"Y-Yeah," she answered, stuttering with eyes shaking in fear.

"Don't babe-babe me here, Ms. Hayley, and don't put Ran in our conversation," Jimmy butted in again.

I looked at him with wide eyes. "Jimmy, I'm your girlfriend! And stop calling me 'Miss Hayley', just 'Hayley'."

"Okay, Just Hayley. Stop calling me Jimmy too. I'm not Jimmy, I'm Ku-Do Shi-Ni-Chi so call me Kudo-kun or Kudo-san."

"What?! No! I don't want to!"

"Then, get out of my house now or I'll call the police headquarters to file your for trespassing in my own family's property without any permission."

"Sh-Shinichi," Rachel called her out. "I-I think you should hear her explanation. The truth is, Shinichi, I--"

"The truth is all that she is saying was a lie. Whether I knew her in the past or not, what's important is the events going on right now," he cut her off and looked at me with fire in his eyes. "Miss, if you still have a little bit of respect to me, the main door was open for you to leave the house right away."

I rolled my eyes in annoyance as I licked my lower lip. I walked passed them but as I walked, my view slowed down as I rolled my eyes to Rachel and gave her a smirk.

I could tell her body shake as I averted my gaze at her to Jimmy. "Oh! Before I left, I left some things in the living room if you haven't noticed. Catch you again, lovely!" I said and winked before I completely left the house.

My mood worsened as I got out. All of the anger that I forced into me seems to get out of my whole body. My teeth are gritting in anger. My fists were clenched so tight. My eyes were a burning fire. My head hurts in so much annoyance. My legs were shaking. My feet were itching to kick that woman's ass away from Jimmy's side.

This is just only the start, Rachel. My revenge was not yet done.

For my next objective, I looked at the next house with a unique shape and a scientific aura.

I knocked to the door three times and moved backward, preparing my fake smile and my hidden weapon.

I tapped my shoes alight as I started to feel very bored to the moment I will wait in a few minutes even though the door was just near to their laboratory room.

The door suddenly opened wide and I saw a white robe peeking through. As soon as the door opened and the old man's head came out, I tilted my head, raise my right hand slowly, and smiled.

"Hi there. I'm Haibara's friend," I greeted with an English accent. "So..." My smirked widened as I pulled up the gun and pointed it at him. "...wanna come to my special party?"
