Chapter 78

The three of them walked slowly towards the couch, their eyes filled with a mixture of hope and uncertainty, resembling lost puppies searching for their way back home. As they approached, the room fell silent, and all eyes turned to them, curious to witness this pivotal moment.

"Are you our daddy?" They all asked at once.

Maxwell, their potential father, felt his heart skip a beat as he gazed at the three children standing before him. His eyes sparkled with an overwhelming sense of joy, and his pulse quickened with anticipation. It was almost surreal to comprehend that he was now a father to not just one, but three beautiful souls. The magnitude of his happiness knew no boundaries, rendering him speechless, unable to articulate the depth of his emotions.

"Why are you so quiet?" the triplets chimed in unison, their innocent voices filled with curiosity. "Are you truly our daddy?" they asked, their eyes wide with anticipation.

Rising from his chair, Maxwell approached them with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. He knelt down in front of the children, his eyes locked with theirs, and with a warm smile, he uttered the words they had been longing to hear. "I am your father," he declared, his voice filled with love and certainty.

The three children looked at him, their eyes twinkling with a newfound sense of belonging. "Daddy," they called out in unison, their smiles stretching from ear to ear. Maxwell's heart swelled with joy as he pulled them into a tight embrace, enveloping them in his love.

As they held each other, the children couldn't help but voice the questions that had been weighing on their young minds. "Where were you, Daddy?" Melina, the eldest, inquired, her voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and longing.

"Why did you leave Mommy and us? Didn't you love us?" Maxson, the middle child, asked, his voice filled with a hint of sadness.

"You ran away when we were born, didn't you?" Mexico, the youngest, added, his innocent eyes searching for answers.

"How can I run away from beautiful souls like you guys? I had know idea about your existence, had I known I would have come running to see you guys." Maxwell said.. "I love you all, and I love your mom too."

"I don't believe you," Melina said accusingly. "You ran away and left mommy and us."

"Had you loved us as you are saying, if you had known about us, you wouldn't have left us alone. Do you know how much we were mocked at school for not having a dad? I will not forgive you," Mexico snapped.

"I swear, I did not run away from you all," Maxwell protested, feeling utterly helpless.

"I believe you, Daddy. And I love you. These two are so stubborn and stupid. Don't listen to them. Come with me. I will show you all my drawings," Maxson said happily, grabbing Maxwell's hand.

Maxwell helplessly followed Maxson upstairs, leaving the two angry Melina and Mexico behind.

"Melina and Max, come here," Old Madam Williams said as soon as Maxwell left.

Melina and Mexico walked to their Granny and sat on her lap.

"Don't get angry with your father, ok? I was the one who hid you from him. Your mum was not well, so I had to keep you all away from him, ok? Go to him. He is your father," Old Madam Williams explained gently.

"But why, Granny?" Melina asked.

"Your mom was not well, so I had to protect her and you all from a dangerous man who wanted to harm you all," Old Madam Williams replied.

"Okay, Granny. We believe you," Melina and Mexico said at once.

"But you shouldn't tell your mom about this yet. As I said before, she is not well," Old Madam Williams cautioned.

"Ok, Granny. We are going to Daddy," Melina and Mexico said, rising off the couch and running upstairs.

..

"Daddy, look at all the dresses I drew all by myself!" Maxson proudly showed his book of drawings to Maxwell. Maxwell's heart swelled with pride, his child was so talented at such a young age.

"I'm proud of you, son. I'm sorry for not being there for you all. I wish I could have watched you grow up and see you draw all of these," Maxwell said, admiring the artwork.

"You won't leave again, right? You'll stay with us?" Maxson asked with hopeful eyes.

"I promise, I'll never leave you," Maxwell assured him.

"I'm so happy today, I'm going to tell all of my friends at school that my daddy looks exactly like me," Maxson said with a grin.

"He's my daddy too," Mexico said from the doorway.

"He's our daddy," Melina chimed in, running in and hugging Maxwell's legs.

"We love you, Daddy," both children said in unison.

"Get out of here, you two. Didn't you say you don't love him? Now you're jealous that Daddy is in my room," Maxson muttered jealously.

"Daddy, I'm a good singer. I'll sing you a wonderful song," Melina said happily.

"Daddy, come to my room. I'll show you all of my dance moves. I'm an excellent dancer," Mexico said with excitement.

"Daddy, stay with me. I accepted you first," Maxson pleaded with sadness.

Maxwell's heart swelled with love as he watched his children fighting over him. He was overwhelmed with so much happiness that he couldn't describe how it felt.

"No, he's coming with me to my room," Melina said sternly.

"Why should he listen to your boring singing? He's my daddy," Maxico scowled at Maxson and Melina.

"You two are jealous of me because Daddy came to my room. I won't let him leave from here," Maxson declared.

"Why did you lock me in the room?" Mellisa's voice interrupted their argument. The children ran and hid behind Maxwell, who wasn't ready to meet Mellisa. He swallowed hard as she glared at him.

"Sorry, Mommy," the children apologized in unison.

"You're grounded for a month. No ice cream, no singing, no drawing for a month," Mellisa announced, feeling exhausted from dealing with her troublesome children. Her eyes narrowed as she noticed the stranger in the room. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?" she asked with suspicion, not trusting anyone with her children.

"I'm…" Maxwell stammered, his voice barely audible as he struggled to find the right words.

"He is Granny's elder grandson, he is our uncle," Mexico replied, his voice filled with a sense of pride and determination, as if he was defending his family's honor.

"Shut up… I didn't ask you, did I?" Mellisa snapped, her tone laced with annoyance and impatience.

"But... Mommy," Mexico attempted to interject, his voice tinged with desperation.

Mellisa, however, cut him off before he could finish his sentence, her face stern and unwavering.

"You will not use your phones for a week," she declared, her words hanging in the air like an unyielding verdict. The children, fully aware of their mother's authority, remained silent, their eyes downcast.

"He is right… I came to visit my grandma," Maxwell finally spoke up, his voice filled with a mixture of admiration and longing. In that moment, Mellisa appeared more mature and beautiful to him than ever before.

"Okay, don't get too close to them or else they are going to play pranks on you," Mellisa warned, her voice tinged with concern. "Now, it's time to take a bath, all three of you. Once you're done, we'll tackle all your homework together," she added, her words carrying a sense of responsibility and determination.

"Mommy, why do we have to keep doing homework? I just want to play," Mexico, the brave one, protested, his voice filled with a hint of rebellion.

"You are going to have two cups of milk before going to bed," Mellisa added, her voice firm yet caring, as she enforced the punishment.

"Mommy..." Mexico pouted, his disappointment evident in his voice.
