Tain was in awe at what he was witnessing in front of his eyes. His brother and his swordsmanship teacher were delivering an onslaught on the beast. Their teamwork was superb—as if they were meant to be partners for life.
The beast roared in frustration as it tried to corner one of them to break up their synergy. Yet no matter how many times it tries to do so, all of its attempts were futile.
Soon enough, gashes started forming on the beast's body as green blood began to gush out of the open wounds.
Tain was dumbfounded by their synergy yet also envied their strength.
"If I could do that in my previous life...would I've been accepted?" Tain pondered.
As Tain continued to watch the stupendous scene that was unfolding in front of his eyes, he noticed a group of people donning crimson red robes and holding sickles in their hands—attempting to intervene in the ferocious battle.
Although Tain didn't know who they were, his instincts told him that they were dangerous and could pose a potential threat to Elena and Dilet.
"Brother, teacher, watch out!" Tain shouted, alerting everyone immediately, which he promptly regretted doing as the unknown people began marching to him instead.
'Tain!' Dilet attempted to rush to his brother's aid—but the beast forbade him from redirecting his attention to someone else.
The beast wasn't all brawn and no brain. It could sense that Dilet's weakness was the little boy, and it wasn't going to let go of the opportunity to exploit Dilet's weakness.
The beast opened its mouth and attempted to swallow Dilet's body whole while he was still dazed—but it was unluckily intercepted by Elena's aura blade.
"Dilet! Go help your brother! I'll handle this beast myself!" Elena shouted.
The aura that Elena exuded from her body became more prominent by the seconds—until she swung her sword horizontally at the beast, causing an immense light to blind everyone near her as she discharged all of the remaining energy she had left to lengthen the distance they had with the beast—so as to buy Dilet a bit of time to rescue Tain.
Seeing the variable created by Elena, Dilet quickly rushed to Tain's aid, slaughtering everything and everyone that stood in the way of his path.
Tain felt mixed emotions coursing through his mind as he saw the unknown people donning crimson-red robes being sliced, cut, and slashed in front of him—by none other than his beloved brother.
He felt the urge to vomit but quickly swallowed it so as not to shame himself in front of everyone present.
Heads, limbs, and blood all soar to the sky as Dilet sliced, slashed, and cut everything and everyone around him—until only corpses lie around him.
'Its…finally over…' Dilet thought as he gazed into the sky—the endless stars illuminating the darkness.
He then redirected his attention towards Tain and gave him a smile.
Tain shivered upon seeing the terrifying aura that his brother exuded—but he knew that his brother wouldn't dare to hurt him no matter what happened.
Just when the three of them thought that everything had finally concluded, Dilet felt something sharp passing through his skin, flesh, and kidney.
Dilet soon found himself on his knees with agonizing pain coursing through his entire body as blood began to flow out of the wound on the left side of his body.
"You shouldn't have let your guard down." A raspy voice spoke behind him.
As Dilet looked behind him, he was perplexed to see one of the people he had murdered standing behind him.
"H… How…? I surely…killed you…" Dilet mumbled as he began to cough up blood.
'This is bad. I need to kill him, or else he'll hurt Tain. The teacher is still too exhausted to move. So I must be the one to kill him...!'
As Dilet tried to stand up, the man kicked Dilet's wound, causing Dilet to screech in pain. Additional blood began to gush out of the wound, becoming fatal for Dilet in no time.
Seeing her disciple get humiliated made Elena furious, but no matter how much she tried to move or scream, she couldn't.
She had already exhausted all of her energy earlier, leaving her defenseless and powerless, as all she could do was watch as Dilet slowly die at the hands of the unknown man.
Tain, on the other hand, couldn't bear to continue witnessing this unfortunate scene unfolding in front of his eyes, as he quickly sprinted towards the man.
'No…no…don't take them away from me!" Tears trickled down Tain's cheeks as he got closer and closer to his brother and the man.
Tain knew that he was powerless, weak, and probably a burden. While he did train with Elena, he never once experienced a situation where he needed to put his life on the line.
Still, he no longer wishes to see the things he cherishes leave him. Not anymore. Not again.
That's why, even though he knew it was absurd, he needed to save Dilet—even if it meant rushing towards his imminent death.
The man's lips curled into a smile as he began to laugh maniacally upon seeing the powerless little boy coming at him with the intention of stopping him.
"You also shouldn't have let your guard down." Dilet muttered.
Before the man could comprehend the words that escaped from Dilet's throat, the man felt something slicing through his neck, as his head and body soon tumbled to the ground.
Dilet then spread both of his arms apart as Tain launched himself at him. The pair of brothers embraced each other warmly.
Dilet could still feel immense pain coursing throughout his entire body, but having his brother in his embrace lessened the once overwhelming pain.
Dilet slowly caressed Tain's head, as Tain continued to sob in front of his brother—his tears staining his pristine white shirt.
Soon, the tears began to dry up as Tain no longer sobbed, yet the pair of brothers continued to embrace each other warmly.
Staring up at Dilet with his pair of bloodshot eyes, Tain couldn't help but smile, as his brother was still breathing.
Slowly, Dilet rises up from the ground—while lending Tain a hand as well. The two beautiful moons illuminated the darkness.
Tain, Dilet, and Elena all had smiles etched on their faces, giving the impression that all of them might have just managed to survive this gruesome night. But it seems fate had other plans for them.
Tain gazed at the beautiful night sky, Before turning his head to face his brother, only to see Dilet's head rolling on the ground, and stopping at his feet.
Tain's eyes widened as he mumbled "Brother..." and tried to grasp the concept of Dilet's severed head in front of him.
Blood gushed out of the severed head, staining Tain's pair of brown leather shoes.
Behind the still-standing corpse of Dilet was the same man Dilet had killed twice before. His body had regenerated from death, which was theoretically impossible, but somehow it happened.
Dilet failed to take account of resurrecting from death as a possibility. As a result, he was killed due to his negligence.
"In the end, you were the one who let your guard down." The man muttered as he hacked at Dilet's corpse with his pair of sickles.
