Horror Movie 7

"So, what'd we got?" the head detective asked one of the first officers on the scene.

"Looks like a violent home invasion with a mother and son at home. Mother was downstairs and the kid upstairs. Assailant somehow got entry, no damage on the downstairs entrances or windows leads to the conclusion that they got the mother to willingly open the door. The items strewn about the living room leads me to believe that's where the interaction turned. Damage on the stairs means the mother fled upstairs to her child and the assailant followed. The mother then threw herself and the child out of an upstairs bedroom window. The assailant stayed in the house. When the father came home the assailant was still home and killed him when he passed through the front door."

After being informed about what happened but before he could take in the scene himself, he was interrupted by a man walking towards them. The tall black-haired broad-shouldered man with ice blue eyes was wearing a blue suit with a yellow tie and blue circular glasses. Obviously, this gentleman was Victor using illusive runes to cover his appearance. They were a rune set he acquired along the way while obtaining his education that specialized in setting up illusions.

"That was a great recap of the situation, but I'll take it from here. I prefer to investigate alone." The man told the police at the scene.

"Who are you? and on whose authority are you to order us around." the detective inquired.

"FBI agent Lime specializing in serial murder cases. This case has an MO matching someone on a list of ours" Victor said after flashing the badge he got a week ago.

"You weren't called in." the detective countered.

"I'm sure you don't want to help this murderer to get away and potentially get in trouble with the public and thus your boss." Victor imbuing his voice with the Spokesman's Gate of Charisma.

"I don't know… I really have to check with my boss first." The detective stated while wavering.

"Do you really think anyone would be crazy enough to come up to a crime scene in broad daylight and then act suspiciously by ordering everyone to leave. And If I were to be such a person, I would also be someone able to produce a fake badge good enough to pass even rudimentary inspection." Victor stated while keeping a straight face and still imbuing his voice with the charisma gate.

Victor was able to pull off the bluff and send everyone away without anyone calling someone who would actually check his story. This bought him about fifteen to thirty minutes before they came back with sirens and handcuffs. He did feel a little guilt at getting everyone in trouble, but the fact that everyone was fooled would spread the responsibility among themselves and keep anyone from getting into too much trouble.

"Nothing to it, but to do it." Victor said to himself before heading into the house.

Victor had already looked through the files the secret government organization had on the doll. It was a typical haunted doll story; sick Victorian boy dies of his illness while cursing god and the world around him which imbued his spirit into the doll. Now this was a harder and more involved process in most worlds that needed a lot more conditions being met, but this world was just that kind of place. Lucky for a sick Victorian boy, not so lucky for all the victims over the years. It had the standard possessed object abilities: teleportation, electronic disruption, fear aura, night empowerment, stealth, and the ability to cause hallucinations.

"Come out, come out wherever you are." Victor called out through the house.

The spatial vibrations he felt denoting an object traveling through space was the only warning he got of an attack. Existing with one foot out of reality had its advantages, observing space from the outside thus being sensitive to its fluctuations as one of them. It gave him the opportunity to duck under the object flying towards the back of his head. He saw the vase shattering against the wall instead of his head.

It was his eyes that told him of the incoming psychic wave tainted with negative energy. Normally the added negative energy would make the attack stronger, but in this case, it made it weaker to his defense. He created a shield made of faith using the Faith Necklace which countered the previously mentioned attack. It held up to the first attack with only moderate cracks, but the second wave came before he could fortify his shield.

The second psychic wave launched Victor into the wall, he only had enough time to cover his back and head before he was tossed through the wall. This kept him from a concussion or getting the breath knocked out of him, either being quite fatal in this context.

Through the plaster dust, Victor could see a porcelain doll floating in the air. Victor stayed where he was with his back protected on two sides by the corner behind him and his front protected by a fortified faith shield. He did not have much choice, as every bone in his limbs had a few cracks and a few were near shattered.

He knew it wouldn't last long, but it didn't have to.

The doll approached him and proceeded to throw psychic wave after wave at him.

The first wave shook the barrier.

The second created small cracks.

The third created moderate ones.

The fourth would realistically be the last as the doll was right in front of the shield that was near breaking. However, this was the moment Victor was waiting for, a stark white stake launched out of the ground and shattered the doll before it even knew what happened. Victor hid the Heretic's Bane in the ground and tunneled through it up and under his barrier, then waited for the golden moment that eventually came.

He forged a ring out of the shattered porcelain. It looked like a ring made of shattered porcelain and granted him the ability to use all of the doll's abilities at a minimum mana cost, which made sense.

After he was done the sounds of sirens approached, which was his clue to leave. He used material weaving to craft a wooden cane and mana weaving to puppet his body to hobble away after using illusive runes and his new ring to turn invisible. He headed towards his motel room in town, but first he had to make a quick stop.
