Chapter16: Predatory pt.2

Jaxx’s eyes doubled in size, but before she could make a move to defend herself the rest of the pack swarmed. Kosta slammed into the ribcage of the bear, sending the massive animal off kilter. Her father was right behind him, snapping his jaws as a warning.

“Snap out of it,” Richard’s voice appeared in her head as she shook off the shock of the hit. “Get us into formation.”

Right, she thought. This was her hunt, and she was in charge. She quickly instructed her father and Kosta to break left and the others to circle to the right. Surrounding the bear was the only logical option, it wouldn’t be able to defend all sides, nor would it be able to flee.

There was a moment of hesitation from Jessup and his lackies, but they quickly took their positions once they saw Richard and the others comply. The only wolf still rooted in place beside Jaxx was Thea, and she stood there with ears back, slightly forward on her front legs, and yellow eyes locked on the bear.
