Chapter22: Predicament

Once outside, a burst of chilled rain pelted Jaxx’s face, dampening her clothes and hair. She glanced to the left, then to the right, but saw neither Thea nor Charley. Internally she berated herself for the poor decisions made, but it wasn’t as if this all came as a surprise. She had known it would end badly but still selfishly forged ahead.

There was a decision to be made: which woman to chase down? Knowing Thea would probably go back home, there would be a chance with her later. For now, she needed to find Charley. Thankfully, she remembered where she had dropped her off before.

Her boots splashed through puddles as she cut through an alleyway that led to the back parking lot of the bar. She fished out her keys and jerked open the driver’s side door of her Jeep. Recklessly, she sped out of the lot and onto the highway that would take her where she needed to go.
