Jiego Dane Santiago woke up one day in his shabby apartment with a family lawyer on his door telling him he’s the only surviving heir of the billionaire, Daniel Sy. Thinking it was impossible, he slams the door on the lawyer’s face only to find him again the next day with pieces of evidence confirming his statement. He appreciated her more because of that, until the mere appreciation blossomed into romantic attraction and out of a sudden, he asked her to be his wife. I’m not a psychologist, but I know tears are major evidence of human emotions. That… and bodily language and facial expressions. As much as I know that, I also know that these can be manipulated by experts… or gaslighters. 


But based on how I knew Jiego, the latter is simply impossible. So why is he shedding tears like that? 


“Are you okay?” – anyone in my position would ask. 


He gulped, making the small bulge on his neck move as he did so. 


He looked at me like I just woke him up from a bad dream. 


Just when he finished his sentence, the preacher continued with his word for the mass. 


“…and with the power vested on me by the law and the higher authorities, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride.” 


That, to me, sounded like a life sentence. What do I do now? 


Before I can think of the most logical answer, Jiego moved an inch. And stepped an inch to reach for my hand.
