The set of documents, which totals 72.6 bytes of data and spans a time span between the 1960s and early 2016, was sent by an anonymous source to the German newspaper Surdiu Teshie Zeitung in 2015, where later, to the Washington International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

When Tsukino Miki Hikaru was gathering the documents, they were distributed and analyzed by some four hundred journalists in 2,207 media outlets in over eighty countries.

The first news about the case, as well as 2,149 of the documents themselves, and which were published on April 3, 2018, among other expected revelations, the full list of companies will be released in early May of the same year.
