Chapter 10: TP, P6

Shin was in a hurry as he was going to be late for work. He crossed the street as it was still at the red light. However, a car at his fast speed hit Shin, causing him to fly a meter away and plunge to the ground.

Jackie and Zoe, who were in the next car, witnessed what had happened and immediately pulled over to help Shin, while the car that hit him had already gotten away.

Seeing Shin bathing in his own blood on the roadside, Zoe Xiao couldn't explain why her heart was hurting like hell again. Other people also gathered to see what happened, while Jackie had already called an ambulance and reported the incident to the authorities.

"Shin, please hold on; you can do it; the ambulance is on its way; just hold on." Zoe was trying to hold Shin with her trembling hands stained with Shin's blood. Shin managed to give her a faint smile before he was pulled into oblivion. Zoe couldn't help but shed tears.

"Don't give up," she mumbled but was instantly halted when she saw the necklace dangling on Shin's neck.

Zoe's trembling hand reached for it and read the characters curved on it. ‘‘RX 10 05’’

Zoe lifted her head and looked at her husband, who was holding Shin's head while pressing a handkerchief on Shin's wound to prevent the bleeding from getting worse before the aid came. but before he could even react, the ambulance came, and the paramedics immediately assisted the situation.

Jackie and Zoe go with Shin in the ambulance to the hospital and instruct the driver to follow them.

Zoe was pacing back and forth anxiously outside the emergency room while Jackie was sitting on the bench and silently praying for Shin.

"Honey, what if—" Zoe didn't finish the words she was about to say when the door of the operating room pulled to the side and opened.

Jackie got up abruptly, and Zoe came close to the doctor.

"Who is the guardian of the patient?" asked the doctor.

"We were his employer, and we came here with him; his legal guardian is currently in Chongqing right now," replied Zoe.

"The patient has lost so much blood, and unfortunately, our blood bank has only one bag left that matches his blood type. We have already requested a supply, but it takes time before it arrives. We have to find someone, or if you know someone who is an AB-negative blood type, let us know." The doctor informed them.

The couple exchanged glances and nodded.

"Yes, Doc, use mine; I am AB negative," Zoe informed.

"Alright, ma'am, please follow me for the blood testing procedure," said the assistant physician.

After passing all the tests, they went into direct vein-to-vein transfusion as it was an urgent surgery and Shin had already lost too much blood.

The surgery went well, and Shin was transferred to the normal recovery room with Zoe as she also needed to rest and replenish her stamina after the blood transfusion.

"It's already the second day after the operation. Why is he not waking up yet, doc?" Jackie asked the doctor who is rounding for checkups and also Shin's attending doctor.

"Don't worry, Mr. Xiao, he lost too much blood, but everything is fine. His body is strong now, and he will wake up anytime soon," replied the doctor. "And by the way, the results of the DNA test you requested are already in my office. Come with me to my quarter." The doctor added, and the couple followed him.

"Here are the results; please read them, and I will explain if there's anything you don't understand," said the doctor after they settled down in his office.

The couple was teary-eyed after reading the test results.

"Honey, it's positive. He is our son. He is our Riri. Oh, God! Thank you so much." Zoe couldn't hide her excitement and happiness, and she then embraced her husband, forgetting the still single doctor in front of them who was feeling happy for them.

"So as you can see, all the tests that we conducted were 99.99%+. I am 100% sure that he is your long-lost son. Congratulations, Chairman Xiao and Mrs. Xiao; I am happy for you. Now go; he might be awake now."

The doctor shooed them out of his office in a friendly manner.

The husband and wife thanked the kind doctor again, stormed out of the doctor's office, and went to Shin's room.

Shin slowly opened his eyes and wandered around the surroundings. After a short while, he remembered what happened and why he was in this place. Shin looked at the people around him.

"Uncle, Aunty Yu, sister Lulu, and Marius, you all are here; did I make you worried?" He said it casually with a small smile on his lips.

"Are you serious? You dummy! Why are you crossing the street without looking at the cars and running like an idiot? Are you a kid?" Marius berated him.

"Marius, that's enough; Shin just woke up. You can scold him later," said Lulu.

"I will call the doctor; don't force yourself yet," said Uncle Feng.

"Yes, Uncle and Aunt Yu, thanks for taking care of me."

"Shin, don't thank us. We're not the ones who took good care of you." She replied, gesturing her hand to the couch where the Xiao couple were seated.

They brought you here after you were hit by a car, and Zoe also donated her blood to save your life, so they should be the ones you are supposed to be grateful for right now."

Jackie and Zoe got up and hugged Shin. He was surprised by the actions of the husband and wife. He was a bit puzzled, but he gladly hugged them back and thanked them for saving his life.

The doctor comes in and does some rounds of check-ups again to make sure that everything is fine with him.

"Hmm, I think you are perfectly fine. You're recovering fast, and that's good. Just a day or two of bed rest, and we can discharge you the next day. However, refrain from working for three weeks until your wounds and head injury are completely healed. That's all," the doctor said.

"Understand doc. Thank you," replied Shin.

When the doctor left the room, Jackie and Zoe followed him outside.

outside Shin's room.

Doc James, is it fine if we tell him about us now? but if there's any risk to his health, we can wait," asked Jackie.

"Absolutely yes. As I said earlier, he is perfectly fine, and his wounds have almost healed. His head injury is not fatal anymore."

"Thank you so much, Doc." The couple then got back inside the room, and Shin was already eating his favorite lotus rib soup made by Aunt Yu and Lulu.

When Shin finished his meal, Jackie and Zoe exchanged glances with the Jiang couple, and both nodded in understanding the situation.

Feng, Yu, Marius, and Lulu left the room, leaving the family to have their time together, which Shin found weird.

Jackie and Zoe Xiao already told them about what happened back then and about their relationship with Shin, or, should we say, Ryder Xiao.

"Shin, can we talk?" asked Zoe. Shin was still baffled. He felt like something was going on.

"Yes, of course. By the way, thank you so much for helping me and saving me, Chairman Xiao, madam Zoe." Shin formally thanked them since they are still his bosses after all.

"It's not something that you should thank us for," Jackie said. Shin was a bit puzzled, but he remained silent.

"But before that, let me tell you a short story. Zoe sat on the edge of his bed and held Shin's hand between her palms while Jackie sat on the chair, just listening.

"Back then, a married couple happily celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary with their even-month-old baby in the backyard garden of their house. The couple loved their only child so much that they didn't want to be separated from him even for an hour. So they chose to celebrate in the garden instead of going out.

The garden is decorated with beautiful flowers and red roses, and there were also bunnies playing and jumping all around. The husband took out a box and opened it; inside was a bunny design locket necklace that has letters and numbers engraved on it.

"Wow, honey, it's very beautiful! and, oh my gosh! a bunny locket, is it for me?" The wife squealed in excitement.

"Oh, I'm sorry, honey, but it's not for you. I have a different gift for you later." The husband said this and winked at his wife.

"Oh, is it for Riri? And you even inscribe his initials and birthdate. Awwww, you're the best, hon." The wife commented and put the necklace on the baby's neck, who was sitting on a high chair, and hid it under the baby's clothes so the baby wouldn't be able to touch it and might put it in his mouth.

The sounds of baby giggles, jumping bunnies, and happy laughter filled the whole garden. The couple was oblivious to the pair of ominous eyes that kept gazing at them with evil intentions.

She is the best friend of the wife; she trusted her so much. She didn't know that her so-called best friend was a poisonous snake. She has a hidden desire for her best friend's husband and was planning to destroy their relationship. She wanted the husband to lose trust in his wife. She wanted to ruin the family because of jealousy, so that the husband would look at her and reciprocate her love for him. She kidnaps her best friend's baby, and she will only tell the whereabouts of the baby if the husband divorces his wife and marries her instead.

In order to find the baby, the husband and wife talked about their plans and agreed on her conditions. But before the day of their agreement, she got into a car accident and died on the spot. The couple did their best to find their only son. Regardless of how hard they've tried, all their efforts have been in vain. The only thing they can do is pray that their beloved son is safe, healthy, and in good hands. Yet they didn't stop finding their son; they didn't lose hope.

Twelve years later, they met their son, but they didn't recognize him until many years had passed. Finally, today, the couple reunited with their beloved son. But they're not sure if their son could forgive them because they didn't find and recognize their son sooner." Zoe was weeping, and Jackie just couldn't help but tear up as well, remembering everything they had gone through all those years while finding Shin.

Shin is no better; he is in a crying mess upon hearing the story and realizing whose story it was.

Zoe took out the bunny necklace and showed it to Shin.

"Ryder, Riri… my, Riri, I've missed you so much. Son, can you forgive us? Can you forgive your irresponsible parents?" Zoe was holding Ryder's hand, and the other hand was caressing his cheek.

Ryder couldn't utter a word. Happiness was overwhelming him. He hugged his mother, and his father also joined them. The three hugged each other while crying. They missed each other so much that they didn't want to be separated again.

"Baba, mama," Shin responded to Zoe's inquiries. That's all it takes to convey to them his answer.

After two days, Ryder was discharged from the hospital and went to his parent's house. They didn't want Ryder to be separated again from their lives again, not anymore.

Zoe took care of him until he completely recovered and his head injury healed.

Ryder told his parents about his foster parents. how they found him outside their apartment door. how they are taking care of him, how they love him so much, and how they died at the hands of the murderers.

"Don't worry, I will make sure to find the people behind your mom and dad's death. We will give their death justice; that's the only way I could thank and repay them for taking care of you, son." Jackie said

"Let's visit them if you want; just tell us when you want to visit them. I want to thank them personally." Zoe suggested. She was very thankful that Ryder went to good people and grew up in a loving family.

The family went to Chongqing and visited the couple's grave. They thanked Katelyn and Warren for taking care of, loving, and raising Ryder as a good kid.

"Mr. Wei Mrs. Wei, thank you so much for taking good care of our Riri. Shin or Riri, he will always remain our beloved son, whom we both love so much." Zoe lit some incense and joss papers.

"Thank you so much for loving him like your own child." Jackie bowed again and promised to do justice for their unfair deaths and give them the justice they deserved.

"Mama, Baba, I want to visit our old house; I want to show you something."

"What is it that you want to show us?" asked Zoe when they got to the ruined house.

"At the back, mama," replied Ryder, and he guided them to the backyard.
