"Surprise!" a child's voice filled Ava's ears with triumph. "Happy birthday!"

White and pink rose petals cascaded to the floor as Ava tried to push the bouquet away from her face. It presented both a romantic and unromantic sight at the same time.

"Oops! Sorry! I jumped too high!" Lukas apologized, seeing Ava sneezing as pollen entered her nose. "Did I hurt you? Is your face injured?"

Ava was still trying to process what was happening before her. Her eyes caught sight of William, who seemed tense and awkward. Her gaze shifted, finding Lukas standing right in front of her, looking concerned.

"Ava, are you mad? Isn't this surprise funny?" Lukas asked again. His father had reminded him that Ava might not like the way he planned the surprise. Still, he insisted on his plan because he wanted to make a truly surprising surprise. "Are you panicking?"
