Chapter 42 : Free to Be You and Me

Ash’s POV

“And you’re sure there’s no way out of this?” The ceiling above me was a mosaicked portraiture of the creation myth from the pre-purge. “I can’t just say it to you right here in the house of the Goddess and call it a day?”

Suzy’s face shifted into view, the curtain of her long hair dangling over my face and blocking out anything that wasn’t her. A few months ago, this would have been my idea of heaven. Just Suzy Sykes and not much else. Now with Suzy finally over me, I felt—well annoyed mostly. Maybe even angry.

It was hard not to feel betrayed by the woman who’d been playing me for over six months.

“Ash, I know I’ve thrown you quite the curveball, revealing the truth to you, but I think you would at least have a little more faith in me than that! We’re friends after all!”
