"What are you doing?" Zain asked taking my ice cream out of my hand
"You have a pageant next week, you should be watching your figure," he said eating it
"You just wanted it," I said trying to take it back
Which led to us bickering over it until the rest of the students began filling the class up. As Zain got distracted by one of his fans I snuck out, but he managed to keep the ice cream.
As I stood outside of the busy classroom with an emptied ice cream stick I cursed at him before swallowing half of someone's oily hair.
"Your back?" I asked watching her flip her hair into a ponytail
"In the flesh…" she replied with a wide smile
Layla was one of my closest friends before pursuing Zain. I managed to win plenty of the pageants while she was away, She was really carved most entirely, and on top of she was way to nice to hate. As I stood there watching her touch up her makeup I turned towards Zayd who was handing me ice cream.
"Do you want Zain to kill me?" I asked pulling him into a corner
He smiled opening the wrapper, "Cheat days won't hurt, and if you are interested we can go for a jog this afternoon."
"Deal," I said accepting the bribe
"Do you want to take a walk, we still have an hour before class starts," he asked placing his cold hands into his pockets.
I smiled pointing toward where we could go.
We walked around the school chatting to one another and I discovered that the green-eyed bad boy was an artistic soul filled with much defenselessness. He had many fascinating stories to tell from the bone-breaking career he had to the obsessed fans he loved. It really interested me. After reaching his classroom I made my way back to mine where I proceeded to take the register and announce the dealings of the day. The day passed with our normal activities and zain had been busy with his math book while I studied English and physics. I had to beat him…I needed to get the scholarship.
I had been the prize holder since I arrived at this high school and I wasn't looking forward to having my streak broken. I broke my pencil scratching my head trying not to show how frustrating these equations were.
"Do you need any help?" he asked taking off his headsets
"I have a tutor no thank you," I replied sharpening my pencil
He grabbed my book and fill out the blanks tossing it back in my direction he then closed his math book making his way out of the classroom. I was annoyed but grateful. Layla followed him enthusiastically. I wrapped up making, my way to the field where Zayd said we would be jogging.
As I made my way out of the classroom I ran into Zain. He caught me by my ponytail dragging me toward him.
"Your mother sent me to get you," he said with an angered brow, "where are you going."
"To work out, weren't you complaining about my unhealthy habits?" I asked, "Well I'm going to change that…"
"Hmmm," he answered unconvinced, "Okay let's go."
"Already meeting someone," I said showing him the time
He removed his glasses letting go of my hair, "I'm coming with either way…" he said placing his hands into his pocket.
As he placed gum into his mouth I knew not to provoke him.
We arrived at the field and Zayd was waiting. He waved but lowered his hand after seeing Zain next to me. I waved back running towards him but Zain pulled me by my backpack, "Don't even…think about it," he said annoyed
"If you still speak to Layla after whatever happened then I should be allowed to associate with whoever I want to," I said running towards Zayd
He followed me. No one spoke during the jog and there was a constant exchange of competitive gazes. I just wanted it to come to an end at this rate...
*
They called us twins at some point, he was a brother to me. One who understood and respected me, until he choose to betray me. You see, I hadn't always hated Zayd…he made me hate him. He changed and here he was trying to steal the only stable thing in my life. I would do anything for this girl…she had saved me numerous times without even knowing. Her smile alone keeps me going through dark times and even if all we ever do is fight…she is the one thing that I care for more than anything.
"We have class now let's leave," I said grabbing her hand
The naïve girl had no idea that the green-eyed boy always had a sinister motive.
"Why are you dragging me?" she yelled pulling herself away.
I looked at her compelled to knock some sense into her, why did she even need to go jogging with this boy if she could have simply asked me?
"You know zain, you're making it very tough for me. I do have a life away from you and our parents…I get that we are in the same school now but for the love of heavens could you please understand that we don't always have to do things together, especially since I'm trying my best to defeat you academically…"
"You can be with anyone else, just not him," I said trying not to sound vulgar or violent.
She glared at me stomped my toes and stormed away. I caught her by the arm pulling he back towards me accidentally pulling her a little closer than usual.
"Fine," I said in a grumble, "You want to be my opponent…not friend. So be it," I replied hurt by my own statement but I wanted to give her what she wanted, "But your mother sent me to get you and that is what I will be doing," I said letting go of her abruptly
She hopped onto my back-slapping me around, but it just made my job easier. We got onto my bike and I began riding.
"You're finally home?" Roqsaar my mother asked giving me my new schedule, she was my agent as well.
She helped me balance work and school and she did a good job since I was performing well in both aspects of my life.
"You need to accompany Qadira to her self-defence class tonight."
"I don't want to."
"You don't have an option, I already promised her mother…"
"Stop making me do stuff for her," I said slamming my bag onto the kitchen counter, "I'm going for a ride."
"You guys always fight… just do it. I don't have time for your teenage blowups. If you leave now you won't be late."
I hated that I was always given instructions against my own will, especially since that girl had a talent for picking out each brain cell I owned making me want to jump out of a cliff at times. I stepped out the door walking to the house down the road, why did we have to live so close to eachother. She had already most probably gotten an earful from her mother since she compliantly walked toward the motorbike taking her seat. She must really hate me for having her mother always choose my side…I mean that's how I felt about my mother always being on her side. I swallowed my pride and gave her a soda… avoiding eye contact.
She knew that whatever nice thing I had done for her was a gesture to make peace.
"Will you take me out for chicken…" she asked with her eyes gazing at me admirably
She was quite brave, to do so especially since most of the time we argued over her diet. I nodded unwillingly driving us to our class. I watched her from the door, I needed not to attend. I had already done my session on Monday, but she dragged me in. We fell in and ended at 8 allowing for us to stop for chicken at a local café. One not known to many since it wasn't a very popular franchise. She looked happy around anything made out of chicken and watching her eat chicken was something that made my heart throb in pleasure. After finishing up we had our sodas at a field nearby where we argued about the shapes of the stars and after she had nagged me I chased after her catching her and falling with her onto the grass. I was always my happiest whenever she was around me, and whenever I looked into her grey eyes I saw the child her.
