The examination period finally ended and school commenced as usual. Pageantry was now open and Layla was confident that she would beat me this time.
"What are you busy daydreaming about?" Zain asked flicking my ear
"Can you not…just for a day. Why the hell are you always itching to annoy me?"
He smiled placing one of his earphones into my ear…
"Why are you making me listen to birds?"
"You sound tense you need it," he said with a smirk
I squeezed his cheeks, accidentally smacking his glasses of and as we both bent down to pick them up our eyes met…the boy was really gifted in all aspects. How was he so attractive, smart and a champ in his biker thing? As we rose we bumped heads. I slapped his shoulder rushing to my desk because the bell had rung. He frowned showing me his middle finger before turning towards the teacher who had just walked in.
I threw paper balls at him because I was seated behind him and while the teacher was teaching he stood up in a fit of rage crushing the paper and tossing it back in my direction. We were sent out of the class and given a warning. The next straw we get our parents called in.
"Pssst!" I yelled trying to grab his attention.
He took his glasses off squeezing the tip of his nose, was I really getting under his skin that badly? Our punishment was hopping around the field with one leg. Which wasn't as bad considering that our parents have a special programme for out fitness as well. After doing most of our punishments school ended and as we sat on the grass gasping for air, he turned to me wiping away his sweat.
"Why have I had zero normal school days since I moved here?" he asked
"Not my fault," I retorted drinking up the bottle of water
He flicked my forehead leaving the field. I sat watching the birds fly around the students who were arriving to play rugby and when they started jogging I got up and made my way to the female locker room. As I walked to the girl's locker room I bumped into Layla who handed me a party invitation stating that I should bring Zain and Zayd along. I tossed it to the side but she handed me another one.
"Don't make us look like rivals that is not allowed in the pageant world."
"We are rivals though…" I said trying to leave but she stepped ahead of me blocking my way
"Fine… I`ll go!" I yelled taking her invitation card
I informed Zayd and Zain. Zayd politely rejected the offer stating that his current art project was due soon and Zain, well Zain had no life so he had to come anyway.
We arrived at the party. The living room was filled with bright lights and music, Layla approached us with a welcome drink and showed us around for a bit before leaving to tend to other guests. For the first few hours not much went on, in fact, I was rather bored. Later however was when the fun began. Layla had made an announcement about Zain`s relationship and the crowd laughed at her but because of that silly lie, we were now surrounded and told to prove it.
Zain pulled me in for a hug whispering into my ear, "Please just play along…"
Reluctant, I allowed him to take the lead. The biker boy had his hands wrapped around my waist and as I blinked in confusion he laid his lips on top of mine kissing me... My first kiss, dang it! To shocked to react the crowd cheered and I…well I wanted to rip out his head. He smiled letting go. I played along for the rest of the night, trying not to blow our cover.
I arrived home washing the kiss on my face, trying to forget what had felt like to have his tongue inside of my mouth. Why did my first kiss have to be this stupid prick? his stupid disgusting, soft, plum .... what was I thinking! I could barely sleep as well because every time I closed my eyes I imagined his nerd face on top of mine.
The next day when we arrived we discovered that the news about last night had spread quickly. Everyone was talking about it and not everyone was happy and trust me I definitely was not happy as well. Zain continued his charade while I scrolled through my Facebook….its funny how our school page of all things posted us with the caption 'POWER COUPLE' Wait till our mothers see that.
My desk was filled with plenty of visitors that morning and I had never been bullied…but as I entered the classroom I was flour bombed and told that I didn`t deserve the hunk. If only they knew how much of me hated the hunk. I pulled the girl by the collar throwing her to the ground, their liking me was the least of my concerns. None of them liked me anyways. Zain had his nose in a book and as usual and was ignoring the entire situation. I laughed dusting myself off before being called to the office. My mother…
And Zain's mother. The school hadn't started and they were already here ready to kick our butts.
My mother did not hesitate to lay a slap on our faces and for at least 2 hours I was forced to listen to how young I was to be in a relationship and that we do not know what love is. Zain explained the situation and the school announced our break up…
That's when things really…went bad. And I thought the flour bomb was bad.
"I'm the literal laughing stock of the school, from the most respected …no one could come close to what I had going on. All because of that stupid meaningless stunt of a kiss of yours!" I said pushing him
"It's a simple rumour, it will die out when something new happens."
"You idiot, it's not even about that, the entire time you hadn't defended me once…now I've been kicked off the pageant community, along with the scholarship situation and you had stolen my first kiss!"
"Yes, I stole it. It was going to be mine anyway…so whatever."
"Swine!"
He placed his hands into his pockets, "We are simply competing from now on…don't come near me."
"With pleasure dimwit. Could care less about you or your existence …I hope a bus runs you over!"
He chuckled pushing me aside. I remained on the rooftop crying. I don't know what hurt more, observing him leave or having much of what I built for myself get taken away in an instant.
I left the rooftop. Devastated...and uncertain of who I was.
