Cui Bin nodded: "otherwise there is no way to carry things, our ammunition can not be placed in the open air."
"That's right. Where are they buried?" We are not completely disloyal to the Nano clan, and we could easily fall into their hands in case of a fall out.
"I'll show you later." Cui Bin made a gesture of invitation.
One after another we bent over and saw the others gathered at the mouth of the cave, looking out over the desert.
After going up, I called out: "Everybody find a place to stay, at most only a day or two, we can attack out."
After calling everyone back to the cave, I followed Cui Bin outside and walked 30 or 40 meters. At a pass, he pointed to a few simple symbols on the cliff wall: "This is the mark. The ammunition is packed in boxes and buried underground. The sand inside is dry and will not affect bullets or guns."
I was satisfied with the nod: "the outside should also stay for a while?"
"Yes, the ones we stored the last time we were here. Enough to fight the horde." Cui Bin said.
We went back to the cave, and I lay down to rest. I haven't had a good night's sleep in a long time. In the middle of the night, just smell a little smoke. Climbing up, I took an oil lamp, a person ran past, walked to the slender passage, saw that it was full of smoke, they quickly returned.
The usual morning meal was tacos and kippers. When food is scarce, you get used to it, eating the same food day after day, rather than having any discomfort or boredom because you have no choice.
There were two narrow openings, so that we could not feel the existence of any smoke, but the air was always filled with a smell of burning wood.
Every few hours, we go through the hole to see what's going on, just to keep an eye on it. On the third morning, the smell of the wood was as strong as ever, but the smoke in the long, thin passage had all dispersed.
After checking the situation, I came back and called Cui Bin and Zhebie to go with me to the stone crevice to check the situation outside.
When I got there, I found that the rocks of the cave wall were slightly hot. Looking out from the hole, I saw a piece of scorched black outside. Even the rocks more than ten meters high were roasted black and the fire was extinguished. When the wind blows, it carries a blast of heat.
"They should be down by afternoon or evening." I said.
Cui Bin said: "Then we have to do some preparation, miss this opportunity, it will be difficult to attack out."
I agreed and arranged: "Cui Bin, you go back now and give 30 bullets to each person holding rifles and 20 bullets to each person holding shotguns. A few more of our own men to carry bullets and some guns."
"Any provisions?" Cui bin asked.
Ask Nanova if they have any provisions on board. If they have, don't take them. If not, each of us can take a little."
"Good." Cui Bin answered and left.
After watching for more than two hours, Zhebe and I retraced our steps and let someone else watch.
Cui bin told me that Nanova said that they had several ships dedicated to transporting grain, and that large tribes had held out on the sinkhole for less than a week, so there should be a lot of grain left on board. So we don't need to carry our own food.
Towards evening, the men who had been stationed at the crevices came running back to report that they had seen the great tribesmen at the opening in the cliff passage, and were laying up rope ladders.
After putting everyone in armor, I called Cui Bin and Nanova to the front.
"I'll go over there and keep an eye on the situation, and as soon as I get the word, you bring everyone here."
When they answered, I left quickly.
When they arrived at the crevasse, they saw a procession of large tribals, about 70 or 80 of them, reaching inside by rope ladders.
When they reached the surface, they spread out and searched the bottom edge of the sinkhole, and when one team reached the iron gate, it was like discovering a new continent. Let a big man push the door.Though scorched by the fire, the iron door was not much damaged and could not be broken open.
The small leader then called the others to come over, several people came forward with an axe chop random, only to open the iron door. The axes in their hands were also damaged to varying degrees.
"Go and get everybody here. It's time to move." I tell Zhebi.
After Zhebe ran away, I continued to watch the situation outside. The little head filed out in a tie, leaving two men to guard the iron gate.
I didn't think they'd guard it, but they'd be so careful.
When the others arrived, I called Nanova over and pointed to the two men. "These guys," I said, "you're going to have to deal with them."
Nanova nodded. "Please, brother, I know what to do."
After releasing the long stones blocking the crevices, Nanova and two men took off their armor and went straight out. As we went down we talked to the two men and said we had run away from the cave.
The two men, who did not suspect much of them, went up to inquire about them, and were killed with their necks broken before they could exchange a few words.
The danger was settled, and we made a quick exit.
"Leave ten of you," I ordered. "The rest of you hurry up the rope ladder and enter the cave."
While Wu Wa and Lao Cheng left with the others, I took the remaining ten men and worked together to move large stones to block the iron gate. The outside layer by layer, piled up to form a trapezoidal stone ladder.
"Well, they can't get out without half a day's work." Cui Bin clapped his hands and said.
"Even if come out, still have to hit dead several." I waved my hand. "Come on, we must hurry up, too."
After climbing up the cliff passage, we cut down all the rope ladders. By the time I reached the cave, it was already dark.
After a short rest, all the men loaded and marched out of the sinkhole.
Distance from the sinkhole outside only 20 or 30 meters, see crossing there are several people wandering in patrol. When they find us, a few shots go off, take them all down.
Soon more people were gathered, and arrows flew from a distance of ten meters. Of course, we were unharmed, in their fierce resistance, quickly reached the crossing, their men down one by one.
"Round them up and kill them all." Someone was Shouting at the top of his lungs.
The camp of the great tribe formed a semicircle, completely enclosing the way to the outside world.
"Head for the Waterfall Hill." I called out, trying to kill the yeller, but couldn't find him.
There were at least two hundred of them above the great tribe, and when the arrows could not kill us, one by one of our own fell and fled.
Soon we broke out of their camp and took up positions on the Waterfall Side. They were not willing to let us escape, though they dared not attack again. Quickly regrouped, took out their shields and drew the line to confront us.
Wuwa ran up to me and suggested, "Chief, let's kill them all."
"How many bullets do you think we can kill a man with?" I whispered.
When She heard me say this, Wu Wa became silent. Not only will we have to deal with the big tribes, we will have to deal with more difficulties in the future. But our ammo is limited, so we save every one we can. If I had enough bullets, let alone great tribes, I could, with my weapons and equipment, in a short period of time establish a slave kingdom of a "large" population upon the islands.
"Let's move forward together." "Until we drive them to the sea," I shouted.
Every step we take, the horde takes a step back. After a few dozen meters, the opposing group opened a passage to the sides and a few men came out. Behind the shield, the upper shield was removed to reveal a young face. Tall and slender, with a certain bronze crown on his head, he was otherwise not much different from other aborigines.
"Are you Prince Zeno?"
He smiled. "It's me. Who are you?"
"You have people on your side who know what we are." "You have been cheated," I replied. "We have nothing good here, let alone any treasure."
