09:20pm
Five days past, I did what I did continuously. I scared her at the bathroom, the mall, the gas station even in her sleep. She was afraid and disturbed. Bernard figured that I was the brain behind it. He booked and appointment to see me like everyone would, then he came. I didn't bother about pleasantries, I hit point instead
"Can I see your proposal, Mr Dublin!" I inquired rubbing my fist lightly
"Fortunately, I have come with a much better proposal..." He smirked leaning over
"Really? How exciting!" I Said with sarcasm
"Of course, Mrs Khaleefa!"
"Head on." I inquired again
He leaned over taking off his smiles replacing it with a frown
"Look Danielle, I'd give you the last chance to stay off my lane. The next time you try to meddle...." He began his threats
"Bernard..." He was surprised that I knew his name then I continued "...Do well to leave as soon as possible. You're here on behalf of Mandy, isn't it? I guess you like what you see everyday. That's only an intro, I'd advice you advice her to tell the truth to Carol while the sun shines and if you turn the other way round, you'd be dead." I threatened too
"Really? What sort of a tycoon would meddle into our business? It doesn't involves you at all, all you got to do is...." Bernard said, i interrupted Again
"...Oh Just shut up. Good heaven! Good thing you acknowledged that I'm a tycoon and that tycoon would hurt you real bad if y'all don't fix up your shit. And for the record, those pictures were unprofessionally taken, I'd suggest you send more better and clearer ones...." I blurted
He stood there in silence and groaned
"Watch your back!" He stood up to leave then I stopped him
"All these words for infidelity huh? Don't even think of leaving the country, it would never be fulfilling If you leave, and if you dare a thing pray you both get out alive." I warned
He left instantly.
I didn't waste any time to narrate the whole story to Jamal and Lola respectively on different occasions.
After work, Lola and I visited Ada at the governor's residence.
"Hi Ada!" We said in unison
"Oh hi. Lola. Danni. Good to see you both!" Ada looked bright and much okay. We hugged in turns then we sat on the couch while she was on the bed
"You look way better, Ada! What's the secret?" I teased
"Its y'all. I wouldn't have made it without both of you, I'm healing. I just want to get back to work, that's it. The doctor suggested i stay home for a few weeks then I'd be fine to work again." She said jovially with a grin
"Why not! Then we could go for dinner as always and vacation for the weekends." we laughed
"That's sweet. Did you remember this man her?" I showed her a picture of Eric from my phone then she became silent
"Honestly, I don't know. I don't think I've seen him around lately. Who's he?" She asked looking lost
Lola and I felt disheartened
"Poor Ada! That's your husband, Eric!" Lola blurted
"Hmm. I do have a husband?" Ada looked sad
"Its ok, if you don't want to talk about it." I suggested, I didn't any more triggers.
"Look, if you don't tell me about him how am I suppose to recall? Where's he?" She asked
"With the FBI!" Lola said
"FBI? What did he do? He's not a criminal, is he?" Ada asked in Doubts then I sighed
"Not really. You know, sometimes we do things without realizing the disadvantages. Its crazy. Are you sure you want to talk about this?" I asked to be sure
"Why not?" She affirmed
To be honest, she looked sound and strong. She was far from being sick, good thing she was given medical attention and her drugs were helping a lot.
We narrated the story from start to finish and surprisingly she recalled Eric.
"Don't you think I should see him?" Ada asked
"We'd arrange for that, then I'll let you know. The protocols are Overwhelming, you know?" I said
"Ah! That's ugly. Why hasn't anyone spoken about him just yet?" She asked again
"They want you to remember everything at your own pace. The reason why we told you is because he might need your help, at least to lessen the charges." Lola added
"I don't know what to think anymore, its just like everything happened so fast. I should see him." Ada requested
"Sure thing. I need to talk to mother right away, Lola please could you..." I asked standing up
"Why not. Don't take to long!" Lola said
"I won't. Addy, I'd be right back."
"Oh course."
I went out of the room to find Carol, I asked the workers I found, then they said that she was in the study. Carol was someone who reads tons of books, that's a professor you know.
I knocked them she answered duly. I walked in quietly then I sat down.
"Hi mother?" I said politely But coldly
"Danni, you came." She said taking off her reading glasses "What's the problem?" She asked
"Eric." I said simply
"Oh Danni, not again. We talked about this, didn't we?" She said
"I know we did. You're not playing fair, you know that?"
"How's that true?"
"Why are you still keeping Eric in prison? He's innocent right?" I asked
"Can we not talk about..." She tried
"Why not, mother, why not?" I almost yelled
"Did you not see the headlines, photos of him were found at a murder scene, the Ex deputy governor's death!" Carol stated
I sighed heavily turning away then I turned to her
"Who let out the pictures? Did he actually do it? I just don't understand this whole thing...this is crazy."
"Can I have my time? I need to think straight, ok?" Carol answered coldly
"Fine! You need to. I don't know why one person should pay for a crime they committed? You know he couldn't do this alone, He's got someone."
"Danni, excuse me!" She insisted
"...You've got a hand in this Carol. You're a part of this, yes?"
"Oh please!" She shrugged rolling her eyes "Why are you so concerned about him anyways, you got Jamal, don't you?"
"And you got the governor right? Did you have to kill someone's husband, did you?" I countered
"What-on-earth-do-you-want? Tell me!" She yelled
"The truth! I don't care if you kill everyone for your political badness, I need you to help Ada. She's your daughter, isn't she? Do you even know how many lives you've dealt with emotionally?" I yelled back. I sighed then she turned away
"What do you mean by that?" She looked confused
"The deputy's youngest child, Eliza!" I said
"Danni!" She looked away
"You know his first daughter wouldn't let the culprit live a minute. You should sort yourselves, Eric might not just hold it for too long, don't you think? He's doing you a favor and you can't see it." I walked out briskly
I met Lola in the living room. We said that Ada had gone to sleep, her drugs contained tranquilizers.
"What's wrong?" Lola asked
"Let's just leave, I'll tell you on the way." I walked ahead as Lola followed from behind after gulping down the glass of wine she held earlier.
While in the car as I drove us, I was moody. Lola couldn't hold back her concern she had to let out.
"Danni, if you ain't talking about it then you should let me find a cab!" She said seriously
"What stupid cab? Do you even know what you're talking about? Everyone seems ungrateful..." I yelled and flared. Lola was silent, she understood I was mad at something then she continued after I had calmed
"Are you done, all the yelling and pissing off attitudinal shit and all that?" She questioned furiously
"What the hell Lola, I don't understand you." I said
"Don't gimme that! Why are you yelling unnecessarily? If you need me around you just got to understand I got feelings too. Let's talk like adults not some high school girls, ok?" She lectured correctly
I turned off the engine after pulling over.
"That's true. Y'all don't see what I see, why can't everyone see things the way I do."
"Y'all? Y'all? Y'all? Don't gimme that 'y'all' shit, Danni. Im my own person, you could talk to me directly. So what's up?" She asked regardless then we smiled at our arguments
"My bad! I just don't know how I got embedded in this Eric thing. Sometimes, I think I got too snoopy along the way. I spoke to Carol earlier and she seemed too nonchalant and reluctant about everything she's done. Eric and Carol killed a man and in the end Eric gets to be lamb to make sacrifices...." I explained
"What the hell, Danni. How did you all of that though?" Her eyes widened
"Eric told me but he didn't say it directly, I just had that calculated in my head. Its not fair you know. I'm pissed, totally pissed."
"Wow! You should've told me that your efforts were more to just Ada recovering. Who else knows about this?" Lola asked
"I don't know about the governor's residents but just you and Jamal."
"Why are you taking this up solely? Danni, every government has its dirty and clean sides, the McClure's just happen to get involved which is totally expected but I really think we should let it off our hands. Doing the justice thing is really going to take away your time, energy and your attention from Jordan and even Jamal. It doesn't concern you, its not your problem. You ain't no cop or something. If you ask me, I'd advice that you don't get too clingy with this, you never can tell." Lola advised in the best way she could. I looked at her for 5 seconds, I didn't know what to tell her. It was like she was on my side and not on my side at the same time.
"Really Lola? Everything you said is true and it sounds easy like a stroke of one two three. I can't just sit back and not do nothing. I can't leave Eric and Ada at the mercy of no one...."
"And Who told you they got no one? Carol and the governor would never let them stray away under their nose. You talk as if these people are some kittens, Danni they're grown ass people. You can't do everything for them, they should take responsibility for their actions." She lectured, this girl made sense but I saw it differently
"Yes, Miss Lola I know about that perfectly well. Don't remind me. Can I not just help out, just a little help doesn't kill especially when I can." I countered her suggestions
She scoffed and continued
"I did not say you're wrong for helping. Can't you see it draining you, its taking your time. Its driving you nuts, its killing you inside my friend....you're worn out!" She scolded
"....oh spare me all that crap, that chit chat. I don't know if you understand or not..." I yelled too
"....I don't understand, and don't make me to 'coz i won't. Just let them sort their flaws, you can't always fix them up Danni. Eric is married to Ada not you...."she flared
"....I didn't say i wanted him to look at me though, I was only trying to come through, that's it....." I said again flaring
".....Danni, I'm over this ok? Im only telling you the truth, nothing else...."
"Yes, saint Lola. I hear you, I totally do. I'd do what I want and how I want it, ok? Don't preach, keep your sermon to yourself."
"....I will, holy mother. I always will, don't call me up when it gets rough and tough coz I wouldn't come through...." She blurted angrily
"Yeah whatever Lola, I called you up right, so I'm never going to do this ever again, just suit your goddamn self, Lola.....I'm fed up with your pretentious charade, it sucks!" I said angrily
"Charade? You're unbelievable Danni, I'm out!" She was heated up like I was
"Of course. Jamal told me that already, it don't make a difference, just bounce out!"
I yelled back as she took her cell and purse out of the car. I watched her stop a cab as they zoomed off. I turned the Car's Air conditioner to about 20°, I was really heated and sweating profusely. I couldn't remember the last time I argued like this, not even with Jamal, he'd always find a way to calm me down likewise me too. Me and Lola's case was different, I wouldn't accept her judgment and she wouldn't accept mine as well. I opened a bottle of water and gulped it down then I zoomed off after throwing the empty bottle to the back seat. If jamal was here, he wouldn't let me slip off.
