"Hi. Madam Carol!"
I answered my cell phone with broad smiles while at the office, on the couch.
"Yes dear. Can I see you for moment at the mansion?" She coaxed
"Ok..ok! Gimme 30!...."
She didn't let me finish, she cuts in abruptly
"....Sam would come pick you up, I insist!" She hung up.
I sighed on the couch. The response from madam Carol had weakened me with her cold and moody words. Jamal's call came in immediately, it felt like he knew I wanted to speak with him about something.
"Hey baby!" I sweetly called, of course I knew what my husband wants.
"Yo babe! Still working?" He asked
"Oh no! I just rounded up and besides that, madam Carol called few moments ago, she sounded important and serious..." I explained
"...well, it doesn't spoil my surprise. Maybe I should drive you down...."
"...oh no! She ordered Sam to come pick me up though, I'll text you when we're done!" I concluded
"Whatever it is, I got you down to 100. Hate ya!" He teased
"Hate ya too!" I giggled then I hung up.
After an hour, I sat on a soft sofa. Nothing changed except for the furnitures and decors that were changed. Madam Carol came forth in her splendour like the first day I met her. A beam rested on her red painted lips. She sat beside after one of the maid handed a glass of water, just as I requested
"Oh Danni, my apologies. Its important we talk right now, this second." She looked serious. Not even the usual snuggling and chitchat, well, the changes glared.
I forced a smile on my lips
"Its nothing. It sounded urgent and usually, I had to come by. What's the problem anyways?" I asked firmly
She sat up clearing her throat.
"....The past few months had been terrible crazy for us all and now I no longer see you as a person but as family. Which brings us to the exact reason I sent for you..." She halted and then continued "...It may sound uneasy and pretty ugly but I'm totally sure you can absorb it for the strong woman that you are..."
"Could you hit it, my family awaits me. Kareem would need my attention any moment." I hoaxed.
I knew she was driving at something unpleasant and terrible, I said what I wanted regardless.
"...Ok dear. I can see how fully prepared you are. Write off Hunter's will which was in your name over to his legitimate son, Brian!" She blurted
I froze. Not because I had nothing or broke which I wasn't, but because it was easy for her to say rubbish to my face. I smirked instead pressing down the anger that had established within.
"Wow! Madam Carol. So easy for you to say. And why would I do that?" I asked back
"....Obviously, you're not his wife, he was only overwhelmed by the love you once shared....that's not the point but the poor boy needs his fathers' inheritance Danielle!" She added
"You could just ask me to provide for Hunter's son not write off his will. And where's the mother?" I asked calmly getting amazed by the flimsy excuses she pointed out.
"She'd be here in a minute!"
Carol sent for the mother immediately. A lady about 25 above came forth in yellow mini gown that had a circular exposure of her cleavage. Her black hair was curly which rested below her chest, her name was quite heavy and smoky, finally her black heels had thin straps around her leg. She sat besides Carol, they looked like accomplices.
"Hi, I'm Mandy, Brian's mother!" She introduced
"...and what sort of a mother are you? You must be his Ex, the crazy one!" I blurted too
"Danielle...." Carol called to intervene
"...Oh please, mother! This tramp is just not it." I replied
"Watch it lady, I'm not a tramp!" Mandy corrected me this time
"...so what are you?" I turned to Carol finally "And if this is the reason you called me here, wasting my time, then I'd have to think it over, mother! I have to go, my family's waiting" I walked out in a mini corporate black gown that was slightly below my knees and pair of Chanel stiletto , taking up my purse as well. I took a cab instead, I declined Sam's offer to drive me home.
I called Jamal immediately, good thing he picked up instantly
"What's up?" He asked
"We just ended the freaky meeting with the Governors' wife!" I shrugged in fury
"not again. Whatever! come over yo the address I'll be sending right after now!" He said regardless
"Ok! What's so special, Khaleef?" I asked In curiosity, my fury disappeared.
"Just come over!" He hung up.
I sighed heavily then the cab driver turned to me in concern
"Are you are you?"
"You do not want to kill bro, watch the road Man!" I inquired
"Oops! My bad!" He turned concentrating on the road.
I got to the address and payed the cab driver extra cash, he was excited. I loved it when people get excited over something but right, now everyone wants that for me, Jamal and Jordan were the only thing that mattered to me. I walked into the 5 star hotel stunningly after I had touched up my name over while we drove. I wanted Jamal to always see me as the woman he knew years ago. A butler held my left arm redirecting me to the VIP lounge instead. Jamal wouldn't stop gifting, I said to myself. I met Jamal standing handsomely, looking at the beautiful view of the city at night, holding onto the neatly designed rods that stood as a guide. The smiled at me and turned away to leave immediately. We were left alone with no one interrupting, definitely Jamal owned this place for tonight. I kept my purse on the table then I crept from behind holding onto his masculine body while my head rested on his back.
"My wife is here!" He said in a soft tone then he turned to me giving me a gender kiss. Then we sat on the designated table. We ordered for only expensive wine and chicken wings, saucy ones. We kept smiling at ourselves like it was our first date after love at first sight.
"Babe. Thanks for tonight. Perfect timing and a lot more helpful." I appreciated
"Anything for my wife. We've been busy lately, I had to resonate the younger feelings from the first start and good thing, its living on." He confessed holding my knuckles and rubbing them softly
"You always amaze me!" I blushed smiling
"...What else could I say than thank you for being there, through the soft and hard times, the admirable and crazy times, the son you gave me....I never for once regretted a moment with you....you're just too perfect for me, Danielle." He stared at me while his eyes welled up in tears. Jamal was always emotional around me and no one else, my eyes welled up too. I couldn't hold it any longer, tears rolled down my face. He reminded me of the past challenges, the arguments, the difficulties and the not forgiving urge. We had been through a million circumstances and we ended up together.
"Waking up to see your beauty, striving to raise our son....thank you for having me back, Danielle!" He confessed again
We stood, he drew me to his arms while the slow acoustic music played while we swayed to its rhythm. My arms wrapped around his neck while his hands around my slender waist. He wiped my tears away making me smile at our reunion and unending beginning.
"Happy anniversary!" He finally said
How could a responsible wife forget her anniversary? I totally forgot about, I allowed myself to be engulfed in nothing but people's problems than focusing on my marriage.
"I forgot about it, I'm so sorry!" I apologized
"Hush! It got more better, good thing you forgot and I remembered." He said with an angelical voice
"I love you so much, man!"
"More than you could imagine, woman"
We smiled.
Its been an hour and thirty minutes, we showered and rocked Jordan to sleep. He keeps growing in the love we embedded. Jamal took his MacBook Pro to work on some documents for business on the bed while I sat next to himself tucking a handful of popcorn into my mouth
"You wouldn't believe the shit I got from Carol earlier.." I stirred up.
It was important for me to tell him besides he was my husband and we don't keep secrets from one another no more.
"Tell me about it!" His eyes were fixated on the screen while his fingers punched the buttons duly
"Hunter's got a son and a rampant mother, Carol wants me to hand over my Will that Hunter willed to me over some boy....." I blurted awakening the anger
"....the boy has nothing to do with this, Danni!" He corrected
It dawned on me that I had been rude earlier.
"Yeah. Brian. I couldn't just believe my ears, how would Carol ask for a thing like that? She could kindly ask me if I can provide for him not passing authorities like I am some mannequin displayed out there, Jamal, look at me!" I scoffed being pissed
The closed the laptop halfway keeping it aside then he turned to me like an obedient boy ready for a night tale.
"That was uncalled for! Seriously, why would she say that?" He asked
"I-don't-know! It sucks real bad, it felt like I was the villain in a thriller movie." I complained
"Let me handle it, babe! That's crazy though" He sighed giving me a hug
"I'll just have to think about it" I said coldly still sinking into his arms
"Exactly! Chill out... We got tomorrow to ourselves and Kareem. We'll just have to see what goes wrong! Trust me!" He assured..
