Chapter 45: Learn how to die!

We were at the bar where the music took charge of us. One of Coffey Anderson's country music did the much work, all we had to was groove abreast. We turned to Ada for a  headstart.

"Why are y'all looking at me like that?" She pretended not to know

"Let's go Danni, she's not ready to shade a skin." Lola teased seriously, just to coax her

"Ok. ok. ok. Eric came over today to get Kayla, not even me. Like...he didn't ask if I wanted us to get back together like old times." She summarized

We sighed and patted her lightly and slightly on the back

  "That's bad, Addy." I said

"I know. It just felt like he didn't want me around, it felt like I cheated not him. He was like 'I'm tired of this thing called marriage.....its over.....bla bla bla', I just don't understand." She explained in details

"Maybe he needs space...." Lola added

"...Well that's what he said. Logically, what does he need space for? I was cheated on not him, he was the culprit and I was the direct victim, so what's up?" She snapped

"This is crappy. What's wrong with him though!" I said

"I admit that I said some really awful things to him, just like anyone would but the way he came at me earlier was rude and unlike him. Y'all know what, I'm done with this shit." She finalized then halted "Nah! I think its over, like...overly over, got that? Nobody should talk to me about Eric. He's history now." She smiled as she us.

"Okay, that's pretty awful..." Lola said

  "Really awful..." I added

"That dude over there has been stealing glances at you Ada, do you know him somewhere? By happenstance?" I asked

"Nope I don't. He's cute. Maybe I should talk to him..." Ada admired him giving him some eye contact. Lola tapped her abruptly

"Come off it, will you? You don't play victim around these guys, be the fire! Keep your cool." Lola advised

"Please tell her. Besides he's ugly, I don't like him." I said directly

"But why? He's fine-eee!" Ada exclaimed

  "Maybe!" Lola added

  "I see why. Y'all got your men, that's why y'all can't see what I'm seeing, he's hot..."

"Cold as ice." I added reluctantly

"Danni, you're not helping." Ada said with a slight frown and discontent

"I'm only Saying my mind! Eric is way better than this." I added

"Ok Danni, you're a piece of work right now ." Lola jilted

  "Yeah whatever!" I shrugged

"Seriously guys, I love Eric so much; and he can't see that." She said innocently leaning on the table

"He's being absurd right now, he'll come around." Lola consoled

"...I got an idea, make him jealous."

"With Who?" They called out in unison

"That guy over there, your crush!" I added

"You said he's ugly..." Ada countered correctly

"I did say that but I didn't say you Can't go out with him. Understood? Think about it, right LaLa?" I demanded

"That's right. I know the ethics, just get off what happened to today, it always happen. We're a living proof of that."

"That's right Ada, we got you."

We did it, cheering her up. That same kept the glances stolen and hidden. He was tall and dark, not too skinny and he looked like a freak, I didn't know how but somehow he did. Truthfully, he wasn't ugly; I couldn't match him up with Jamal's countenance, the difference could tell. That was why I said he was ugly, outwardly he was good looking and neatly shaved bit inwardly, I didn't know about that just yet.

                        ****************

Carol and Pete are in their bedroom as Robin knocked, Carol affirmed his entrance. She was sitting beside her husband on the bed.

"Mr governor...First lady!" His head gave a slight bow. They smiled

  "Anything more problems?" Pete asked

"I..I think you should see this." Robin handed a IPad for him to take a close look.

The short clip displayed Carol's back giving instructions concerning the late deputy's death. The audio was unarticulated, but the concurrent word was 'Kill him'.

Carol was furious over

"Take this trash out. Right now, Robin!"

"Im sorry ma'am! There's a better a way to stop this sabotage! Which is the media." He suggested

"Good. Under the governments' authority, no media should carry out or spread out facts Like this. Get their license, until we've figured out what to do next...Robin you know all these things, I shouldn't ask questions! Now go!" Pete instructed

"Yes Mr Governor! Right away." Robin left instantly. Pete turned Carol who still furious and lost in thoughts.

"Darling, I'd handle this trust me."

"You've said that a thousand times." Carol said

"You should trust me, I'll deal with that criminal. Trust me, Ivey." Pete persuaded

"I know you can, I'm sorry." She turned to him finally.

Ada walked in abruptly just when they thought they had their that moment.

"What was that mother?" She folded her arms in confusion. Her glares were unforgivable, all she wanted from them was the truth and nothing else. Carol turned to Pete then to Ada again.

"Look Ada, what you saw is the truth. No one is a saint, which includes me. I'll figure this out, I promise." She assured

"No mother, I'm tired of this bullshit. Why can't we live a normal life for once? Because of y'all, I lost my marriage, I lost everything I ever worked hard for, now look at me." Ada quarreled

"My princess. Your mother and I have done nothing but make you happy, and we'd continue to do what's best. Leave us now!" Pete assured and instructed, his face looked grumpy at that moment.

"I will. But if y'all go down, you go down alone!" Ada fired with a frown on her face, she walked out briskly.

"Pete?" She turned to him innocently.

"She'll get over it." Pete assured again

It's been a very short while, there has been Speculations about the McClure's involved in dirty businesses. Pete had no deputy, and governance can't work that way, there has to be one or another party taking charge. Pete was heart broken. He took his  convoy over to Eric's aboard. Eric was just making dinner for himself and Kayla, who was at a friend's for a time out. Eric was frightened at the visitation, he turned of the cooker as he headed to the living rooms' door. He opened up only to see the governor and couple of securities behind him.

"Eric, my beloved." Pete said with a smirk

One of the securities pushed Eric to the side, paving a way for the governor's entrance. Pete sat on the luxurious cushion while others stood. Eric stood staring at Pete intensely.

  "Sit!" Pete authorized

Eric was hesitating then a man pushed him down on the cushion to sit forcefully as earlier instructed. Eric's face fell to the ground instead, facing the governor was not helpful to him at all, guilt wouldn't let him. He felt indebted.

"Eric, nice to meet you again after a very very long time." Pete began seriously

"Yes Mr governor. I'm surprise to have you Here. You could send for me and I'll show up?" Eric began with stutters in between

"...Would you ever come? I wonder why I let you breath peacefully till this minute. You wronged me, Eric. I gave everything a son could ever ask for, I gave you the love of a father that a son could ever ask for. My question is where have I gone wrong?" Pete asked

"You...You did nothing. I was....Your wife caused of all this. She threatened to kill me."

"Did you ever talk to me, like we always do?"

"I assumed you'd know everything Carol was into." Eric said defiantly

"....it still doesn't give you room for excuses, Eric. I have been the best godfather you ever wish for. I worked tirelessly to make your political dreams come through. I wanted you to be a deputy governor, Eric, what else could you possibly want?" Pete yelled in anger, he was disappointed. Eric was sober and evenly guilty.

  "Mr governor, I didn't know you'd listen...."

"...Did you ever try? Did you? How did I get to trust you completely. You know what Eric, I'm disappointed in you and you know that and you go ahead making alliances with the devil, how dare you?" Pete yelled stamping this walking stick

"Mr governor....." Eric called calmly with remorse and fright. There! Pete landed him a punch on the face

"You disgust me. I've wasted my time and energy trying to see you grow bigger wings. I slid you into politics without struggle, just when you were supposed to pay back a favor that could get you to upheaval positions, what did you do? You threw it away."

"We killed the deputy.....how does that makes me a better man..." Eric said defensively

"...Just cut the chase Eric. That deputy was never, ever a saint so don't act like one! If you really want to die, you should learn how to die." Pete countered

"How could say something like that? I made sacrifices for your family. I see why he ignored your wishes. Regardless, I did what Hunter couldn't do...." Eric added salting their wounds, Pete hit him again

"Don't you ever talk about my son again, don't ever try it." Pete warned

"I didn't mean to involve Hunter...." He tried to apologize then Pete interrupted

"Just shut it. And just so you know, I'm taking Kayla as well. Come get her if you can!" Pete finalized

"No, you wouldn't!!!" Eric was defiant, he got up to hit the governor as securities intervened. Pete stared at him with a smirk.

"Do you realize I'm still your governor, I guess you know that. The next time you dare such shenanigans, you'd be dead. Just like your friend, the late deputy." Pete said walking out then the securities followed. The limousine was opened for the governor as he delved inside. Eric watched them drive away without his intervention. How could he not think about this, he thought to himself. He thought of the next thing to do.

                        *****************

"Hi mother!" Sabrina's voice sounded jovial

"Hi darling, how are you and you Sam?" Carol's smiled in elegance

"He's fine! I just remembered your anniversary coming up next weekend, are you preparing something already?"

"Oh no, darling. Your father and I intend to make it subtle. Now is not the right time for  such rendezvous you know!" Carol laughed while Sabrina joined.

"Ok Mom. Sam and I would be there Saturday morning and we got a very big surprise for y'all." She said

"Oh really, that sounds amazing. I would suggest you stay back for a while until I tell you when." Carol suggested

"No mother. Not this time...no more controlling buttons this time..." Sabrina got defensive

"...Sabrina!!! c'mon honey, I got reasons. For security sake." Carol persisted

"No mother. Sam can handle just that, just don't worry. I love you. Kiss everyone for me!" She hung up.

"This girl." Carol sighed while she spoke out loud as she continued reading

A man visited my office as early as 9am, I wasn't surprised. I suspected it to be business. Mona led him into the office, I stared at him for a few seconds then I spoke.

"Good to have you sir. How can I help you, trust me, our services are flexible with a 30% discount. Your pick?" I explained politely with a smile

"How about I buy your ass a poison to die!" He fired. I froze again, I wondered who this man was

"I'm sorry, who are you?" I asked for clarification

"Matteo, Bella's husband!" He mentioned with a single scare, he was to confident.

"You mean, her Ex husband?" I added sarcastically

"I see you know family's secret huh? What were you thinking, trying to send me to jail?

You amaze me. You could stay out of the way you know, I'm a killer and I could kill you." He threatened

"I know. And I'm not scared. And about you going to jail, charged with domestic violence and manslaughter. How's that?" I said

"Who do you think you are?" He asked with a frown in defense

"Danielle." I took the telephone's receiver to my ear then I dialed security "I've got a serial killer in here, could take with you!...Thank you!" I hung up

"You could wait for their mischief or leave the way you came!" I warned

His eyes were fixated on me with hatred, then the securities came to offer their services...

I called the cops to take Matteo with them, they knew what to do.

After work, I drove to Betsy's, she emailed me earlier. I got out of my car clumsily walking to the door. I pressed the door bell four times, I wondered why she took eternity. Eternity was cut short, she came through.

  "Danni!" She exclaimed

  "Betsy!" We hugged

She ushered me inside as we sat on the couch, she served a plate of strawberry cake and red wine, we ate at once.

"I was mad you couldn't make it during the Weekend but right now, its cool." She said sweetly

"My Bad, I had so much to do over the weekends." I said simply which was totally a lie, I didn't want to come for some reasons like talking about the McClure's.

We discussed a lot about me and herself inclusive, then she hit a question.

"What have you got with Jada?" She asked with a more serious look

"Jada? Who's Jada?" I pretended, talking about Jada was like inviting the snake over for a deadly mission. Right after I managed to place a restraint between us, Betsy resonated it.

"Don't lie to me, Danni. I know everything. Have you ever wondered why I asked you to come for the weekend?"

  "I had a hunch."

"Good. Whatever it Is, you should be careful around Jada, she could kill." Betsy warned

"How did you know all of this?" I asked sensibly

"She's my friend. It sounds crazy, but yes it is. I really pity the McClure's, she'd make them suffer, that's certain. I fear for them, I know I'm mad at them but this is pathetic." She explained

"Why are you telling me all this." I kept my glass, I had sudden goosebumps asking coldly

"I want you to be careful, that's all. Don't try to interfere, not once. They'll be fine." She warned

"I don't understand. They'll fine but you just said she could kill them. Do you know something we don't?" I had to ask, her impressions implied that

  "....Ah Danni..." She turned away

"Betsy tell me. You know something, don't you?" I persisted

"No. No. No! Danni, you should leave ok? That's what I wanted to tell you, to be careful." She stood up restlessly, then I stood up too

"You wouldn't just call me here for nothing. After some minutes drive down for nothing. I know you love and care for me but don't you think I should know?" I inquired then she scoffed

"Ok. Promise me you'd never say a word. Not right now." Betsy requested holding unto my knuckles

"I promise, I won't. You got to tell me, Betsy!" I added. She sighed heavily

"Wait a minute." She went upstairs

I begun thinking crazy, imagining guns, a crime scene then she snapped her fingers.

  "Danni?"

"...Uh huh? Sorry what?" I was confused

"Come off that thing, you call thoughts. Here it is. This is a drive, it carries everything about Jada and some really dirty things. If you think the McClure's are dirty well you can't compare with this." She said

"How did you get it?" I asked to be sure

"Can I say I stole the information from her laptop? Last year, we were having dinner at her place, she called it a celebration of victory. She said she got a huge sum of money from an investment she indulged in months ago. I didn't believe it right away, so I transferred everything I wanted right after I requested that she gets me a shoe I admired from her closet. That's it."

"Then why didn't you use or do something"

"She'd definitely suspect me, I assumed." She said

"Ok, I'll check it out. Thanks!" I hugged her

"Its ok. Not now, Danni. We'd be catching our flight tomorrow, me and the kids. Vacation over!" She added

"That's sad, call me up. I want to see you off." I suggested

"Alright then. Remember, not now." She warned again

She saw me off the door as I walked to my car then I drove off.

I wondered how I could deal with this just soon, why did she call me up by the way. I hate being caught up in things like this. I couldn't stop while on the highway.
