Chapter 91

Chapter 91

How I wish there's something I could do to console her because I don't really like it when a lady starts crying like this, it makes me sad and looking at her face right now, her eyes look so reddish in colour which proves that she has cried a lot of tears in these past few minutes. "Hey, I may not know your mom but I want to assure you that she is in a better place, don't cry too much about. Death is inevitable and it will surely come for every human being one day", I said, trying to give her words of hope that would change her mood a bit and she looked at me with tears in her eyes. I couldn't stand it all because I may end up shedding tears too, so I brought out my own handkerchief to wipe away her tears, I was a bit careful so that I won't wipe away the make up she applied to her face.

"I know death is inevitable, but why didn't my mother stay a little longer for her children. she's just sixty eight years old, why would she die at the age of sixty eight when her own mother who happens to be my grandmother died at the age of one hundred and two.", she replied, this reply of hers gave me the creeps and it also sent some chilled feelings down my spine. The only living thing that lives up to the age of hundred and above is the tortoise and that's an animal by the way. "Just relax, why don't you take a nap and relief yourself from all these thoughts. Just rest your back and shut your eyes", I replied while holding her hands tight, she did exactly what I said and it wasn't long before she dozed off

The air hostess walked up to me to ask me if I would like to eat any food and I bluntly rejected her offer because I'm just too sad to even think of food right now, this pretty lady's story has changed my whole mood and I won't find it easy to just forget about this unhappy story. I checked my time and it's exactly 9AM, we have spent approximately two hours on the air after we took off from the airport. For some reason, I find it very hard to even sleep and I don't know if it's because I'm thinking too much about this girl's issue?, I brought out my phone to watch a movie and probably read some books to lighten up my mood and when I unlocked my phone, I saw Kelvin's message which reads in quote "I know you must be on your way to the airport, just want to wish you a safe trip and I hope to always remember the good times we had together".

I felt like crying when I read his message, he sent me this message exactly 7AM and I kinda turned off my network signals before boarding the flight and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to use this sim cards once I land in Nigeria because it's another country, which means I will have to purchase a new sim card before I can make any calls. I looked at my side to see if this girl is still sleeping and to my surprise, she's already awake, she didn't even sleep that long. Well, like the popular adage that my dad tells me when I was young "Sleep becomes worthless when you have big troubles at hand" and I guess that's what is happening to this lady but she looks a bit calm now but her eyes is still red.

She eventually brought out a dark shade from her bag and wore it to cover her reddish eyes, what a smart young lady. "Hope you are a bit calm now?", I asked trying my best not to stir up another emotional outburst. "Yeah, thanks for hearing me out and consoling me", she replied softly", "It's nothing really, because it's the least I can do. My name is Andrew by the way", I replied.

"Mine is Amaka, it's a pleasure to meet you", she replied. Her name seems odd, haven't heard such a name in my entire life, perhaps it because she is from Nigeria. "That's a beautiful name but I haven't heard such name before", I teased, "You are an American, and I'm pretty sure you haven't associated with a Nigerian before right?", she asked.

She is kinda right, I barely talk with black people because I don't even know how to start a conversation with them but I remember speaking to a lady who also said she was from Nigeria during my vacation in Atlanta Georgia. So with that, I can say that I do associate with them whenever I see an opportunity, "That's not true at all. I agree that I'm an American but I do associate with anyone that wants to talk with me", I replied with a smile.

"Are your parents from Nigeria too because you actually look more like an African dude", she replied. I was taken back by that statement of hers, I'm pretty sure I look nothing like an African man because Africans are mostly black in their skin complexion but I'm fair so I don't see anything connecting me to this African region if not for my dad's company. "You are clearly mistaken, my parents have lived in America all their lives. I'm only moving down here to live in Nigeria for a while because of some business projects, that's all", I replied trying not to go a bit further about my main reason for coming to Nigeria

"That's fine to me. I hope you enjoy this unique city of hers", she replied and brought out her phone to listen to some music. "Are you just gonna end the conversation like that?. come on sweetheart, I would like to know you better", I replied. She stared at me for a while, maybe she didn't like the fact that I called her a sweetheart but I see nothing wrong with that though, "What do you want us to talk about and what do you want to know about me?", she asked, directing her full attention to me.

"You can start by telling what you do for a living in America, your hobbies, and other things about yourself", I replied with a bold smile, "That's not hard at all if only you will do the honours of telling yours first", she replied. She has Indirectly bounced my question back to me and this is what I don't like in most ladies, "Not at all, ladies first", I replied. "Well, I work as medical doctor and I love singing, dancing, playing video games and chatting with my friends and family", she replied with a smile

Her smile is so breath taking and I could see all her white teeth which also added to her beautiful and attractive face. "That's nice, seems I would come to you whenever I'm sick", I teased, "You can come whenever you want as long as you can pay the bills, so it's your turn now", she replied. "Okay, I'm a software developer and I work in Render Forest Academy. I love playing video games and sleeping all day while", I replied.

"No way, you have a position in that bug company. Oh my Gosh, you are very lucky", she exclaimed. She has no idea that my father is the CEO of the company and I would spare that information for myself, don't think there is any reason revealing such kind of information. "Yeah, guess I am lucky to be working there if you say so", I replied with a broad smile. we kept on chatting for a while before the air hostess came to inform us that we would be landing at the Lagos international airport is less than two hours

"Finally, I'm tired of sitting in one place for hours doing absolutely nothing with my hands and legs", I replied after the air hostess made the announcement. "That seems weird to me but by the way, what does it feels like to work in a big company like that, how I wish I studied Software engineering in college, heard that their salary rate is amazing there", she asked, "Yeah, our salary rate is good and it does gives one the motivation to put in his or her efforts to see that the company stands out amongst it peers", I replied.

"That's great but few weeks ago, I heard that the manager was in some kind of blackmail conspiracy that almost led to his downfall", she replied. I nearly froze that instant minute, how on earth did she get across such information when I thought that it has died down. "What did you hear and where did you get that information from?", I asked with my heart in my mouth, she could sense that I'm getting a little bit uncomfortable but she didn't react to it anyways. "A friend of mine who works in the company told me everything that happened and I must commend the manager for not falling into the trap set for him by his own secretary", she replied

I would love to get the name of the exact person who let out such information, I would make sure he or she gets demoted so that next time, their mouths will remain shut whenever they come across important informations that shouldn't leave the walls of the company. "It would be nice if I could know the name of this your friend. I would like to get across to him or her because I wasn't present at the office when such event took place", I replied trying to lure her to give me the name of the culprit. "I'm sorry, but she begged me not to even tell anyone about it, she only told me about it because we are best friends. I promise her that I won't let another person know about this but I don't know how it suddenly slipped out of my mouth", she replied

Perhaps she is not too good with holding secrets but since she is not ready to give me the name of the so blabber-mouth, I would get across to my father to issue a serious warning to anyone who will want to reveal sensitive informations about the company because if they do, they will loose their job and may even go to jail because it was boldly written in their contract not to reveal anything happening inside the company. But let me just stop at this juncture so that she doesn't suspect anything that would make her think that I'm the manager

"That's okay though but she be careful with what she says or else she would risk loosing her job", I replied. She looked a bit confused with what I just said and I could notice it in her facial expression "What do you mean by risk losing her job?", she asked with curiosity.

"Before we were fully employed, we all signed an agreement not to reveal anything happening in or outside the company and if this goes against this rule, he or she might suffer five years imprisonment. That's why I wanted to know her name so that I could warn her myself", I replied. Amaka went dumb for some minutes, she was obviously shocked to hear those words and now it seems fear has taken the better part of her.

"Please I beg you sir, she only told me about what happened because I'm her best friend, please I promise to keep my mouth shut. I don't want to be the reason why she would spend five years in jail, I won't forgive myself if that happens", she pleaded. I looked at her and saw the way she was pleading for me not to make matters worse because she now understands the consequences of what she just did. "I won't do anything. just warn your friend and you should also be careful, I work there too and it won't be a good sight to see my fellow colleague go to jail" I replied with a smile
