We spoke for a while till she eventually drop me off at my work place and when I walked to the reception, I found out that the workers were into some kind of gathering which they referred to as morning devotion. They kept singing and dancing to the extent that they didn't even notice I was around until I coughed to signify my presence, "Good morning sir", they all greeted and I gently walked to my office while they continued with their morning devotion. I'm not used to all this kind of morning devotion and I am surprised by the way people take it so seriously in this part of the world, especially my company workers, it has become their daily meal and they simply can't do without it.
Back then in New York, I don't remember coming to work to see my staffs in any kind of morning devotion, they are always serious with their duties. But since since it's a common belief here, I just have to let them be as long as they don't in any way try to convince me into it or use it as an excuse of under productivity. I sighted a package on my desk and I began to wonder who would put a package there and by the way, what's inside because I don't remember ordering for anything. I walked out of the office to look for my secretary and immediately I saw him, I asked about the package and he smiled "sir, it arrived yesterday evening and you have already left the office by then so I simply placed it in your desk hoping that you will see it the next morning", he replied
"Who sent the package, I don't remember ordering for anything so how did the package come?", I asked looking so worried. "I don't know who sent it sir but it seems someone outside the country sent the package because there is a short note which says from Mrs Mariam by the side", he replied. I was shocked when he mentioned my mother's name, what is my mom up to this time around, I spoke with her few weeks ago and she never mentioned anything relating to a package so what's actually going on?.
Without saying anything, I walked to my office to check if my secretary was actually telling the truth and to my surprise, I saw my mother's name boldly written on the side and just at that moment, my phone started ringing. I checked the caller and it was my mom "Good morning my sweet mother, I didn't expect you to call me this morning", I replied. "How are you darling, it's been a long while since I last saw your handsome face, have you seen the package I sent you?", she asked
Seems she was actually the one who sent the package because she just asked about it now "I have seen the package but what's inside mom?", I asked looking a bit scared to open it, "Why don't you open it and see for yourself", she replied. I opened the package gently and I was quite surprised by the contents inside, there were flowers what even shocked me more was the diamond Rolex wrists watch inside along with Gold ring, why is she sending me all these gifts?.
"I have opened it mom, thank you so much for all these gifts but I would like to ask the reason for all these gifts?", I asked "I felt like sending you something so that you will always remember your beautiful mother anytime you wear them out and the flowers symbolizes the undying love I have for you", she replied. "Awwwwn, I love you too mom. You are really unpredictable and I really appreciate all these gifts", I replied with so much excitement. I felt like crying because my mom is really loving and caring, imagining taking the stress to shop for these gifts and sending them to me even when we are not in the same Country
It would too impossible for me to forget this lady because she is just the best and there's no one that can take her place on my heart. "You are welcome my darling, hope you like them?", she asked after a short silence. "Yes of course, I love them but how is daddy faring by the way, I haven't spoke to him since last two weeks", I asked immediately my dad's name flashed into my mind.
"He is doing great and we are enjoying ourselves like little kids", she replied, "How do you mean?", I asked looking a bit confused. "Your dad felt the urge to take a break from everything including his work and hang out in a different country for the purpose of enjoyment and relaxation. So he eventually picked South Africa as the place for our vacation", she replied. I was quite pleased with the fact that my dad is finally taking out time to enjoy himself because stress has really taken a deep toil on him lately and the last pictures he posted on his Instagram made me realize he wasn't really doing well at all. "But he didn't even tell me about, maybe that's why he didn't post any new picture on his Instagram handle. That's not fair at all", I replied
"Don't mind your father, sometimes he likes being secret with some things. You won't even believe that I got chance to follow him when I caught him discussing with his friend that he would leave me behind because he doesn't want any disturbance", she replied. I burst into laughter after reply, it's quite funny that my dad still has this insane character of his "It wasn't funny, I had to walk out on him angrily before he chased after me and begged me to follow him", she replied.
"But I'm glad that you guys are getting along quite well but why didn't he pick Nigeria. This country is quite cool and there are some tropical and historical places that he can visit in this great country" I asked. "I don't really know why your father picked South Africa, perhaps he doesn't want to be in the same country with you so that he won't bother you", she replied. "Okay then, let me allow you guys enjoy your vacation together", I replied.
"Alright dear, take care of yourself and stay strong for mummy", she replied and hung up. But why would my dad feel he is going to be disturbing me by paying me a visit, hope he is not avoiding me at this point because that's not gonna be good at all. I simply went to my computer to see the latest development on the new game that my staff are working on.
I must be honest, these guys are actually good when it comes to gaming ideas and the one girl that I do admire here is Cerlyn, she's really smart and serious with her job but let me take my eyes off her before I put myself into trouble again. I checked my time and found out it was 10AM already and I promised to hang out with some of my Nigerian friends in the mall but since there is not much here, perhaps I should get going.
I walked straight to my secretary and asked him to cover up my absence because it won't give a good impression when the other workers find out that I don't always stay in the office that long. "But sir have you forgotten that you organized a board meeting by 10.12AM?", he asked. I felt so weak when he reminded me of my previous announcement, perhaps the other workers are getting ready for the meeting already. "Oh, thank you for remembering. I just wanted to see if you will still remember what I announced last week", I replied trying to cover up the fact that I wanted to disappear from the office but attending that meeting will make me sacrifice my time with my friends and I don't want to keep them waiting only to them that I won't show up, that's not cool at all.
"Good morning sir", The software developer greeted, "How are you doing my good man?", I asked with a smile. "I'm doing great, I guess you are heading to the conference hall for the meeting right?", he asked. Now I surely don't have any other option than to simply go to the conference room to avoid any form of disrespect from the other workers, I walked into the room and found out the other workers were already seated with their pens, notebook and android tablet to take note of some important points in the meeting
"Good day everyone, Cynthia can you throw more light on what you told on the phone the last week?", I called out the pretty lady who was in charge of monitoring the reactions of our users and game lovers. She stood up with confidence and walked to the front of the conference room with all eyes fixed on her body, "Thank you sir, I have carefully taken my time to observe the reactions of our users these past few weeks and I noticed that most of them are seriously complaining and migrating to the other games that is trending on playstore. "That means they prefer the games of our competitors to ours right?", I cut in.
"Yes sir and I fear it's gonna affect our revenue badly", she replied looking a bit scared. I became quite serious with this when she mentioned that revenue part, my dad won't happy when he finds out the performance of this branch is reducing, I need to come up with something and I need to do it very fast if I want the company to remain at the top. "Alright that's not much of a problem, just follow Cerlyn's new idea for the game and see if it would bring back our esteemed gamers", I replied
The whole room was quiet for a while, they obviously believe that I would give the permission for a staff's idea to be used to improve the game because it's quite uncommon in most gaming companies as the managers always come up with ideas by themselves and shut down the ideas of the other staffs, thereby leading to depression in staffs but I'm not like that. I feel I should give room to these people to express themselves the way the want and using Cerlyn's idea would be a good start to create a more friendly environment between me and my staffs and I pray her idea works out well. "Sir are you sure about this, I never thought you would even pay attention to my suggestion for the game", cerlyn replied looking a bit scared
"Why wouldn't I pay attention to your idea, it does sound great to me and I feel we use it to improve the game and see how it goes", I replied with a smile. "Alright then, I believe we all know what to do", Cynthia replied while turning to the other staffs to signify that they should get to work immediately because it's only a matter of time before playstore starts looking into the reviews from our users. Everyone quickly left the conference room and went straight to their various points to get started on the new project at hand
But Cerlyn however stayed back, seems she wants to discuss something with me. "Is there any problem ceryln?", I called out to her as she seemed to be lost in her thoughts. "Oh I'm sorry sir, let me get to work", she replied and stood up immediately but I quickly rushed to her and grabbed her hands.
"Hey, hope you aren't afraid of me?", I asked because I could sense a feeling of fear in her while the meeting was going on. "I'm just scared if my idea falls through, how would you take it?", she asked. "I won't take it seriously because mistakes and setbacks do happen at some point in life, just put in your best and ensure that every aspect of your idea is brought to life. I believe in you" I replied while placing my hands on her shoulder
She smiled and walked away while I walked down to my office to take my phone and head straight for the mall
