Reason Other Than Money

Lucas sat reckless on his bed staring at his phone from time to time. He had been doing that since he woke up. He had been waiting patiently since morning to hear from Jenny. He was afraid of calling her and not getting through to her so he had to resort to praying and hoping for her to call him but after 9 in the morning, he knew that he had to call her.

He picked his phone with shaky hands and worried expression and then dialed her number.

It rang and he nearly jumped to his feet. He was excited to hear from her but his excitement turned sorrowfully when he heard a male voice. What came to his mind on why a male will pick her call is that the call went into divert, for someone her number has been unavailable.

He cursed and wanted to drop the phone but remembered that her brother might have picked the call, it could not be a call divert after all.

Zain's point of view…

Jenny's phone rang bringing me out of my many thoughts. I had taken it along with me in case the idiots that kidnapped her would call to demand for anything, it could be a clue to where she is.

Looking at the screen, I sighed before picking it. Lucas did not say anything at first, Maybe because he heard my voice first and is reluctant to speak.

   "Hi, Mr Zidat?"

He finally said and that caught me off guard, I didn't not realize he knew my name.

"Morning Lucas, how may we help you?"

I said with boredom lacing through my voice.

"Nothing really. Good morning. I tried Jenny's phone yesterday and it did not go through, I am just worried. I wasn't expecting you to be the one to pick the call, hope she is good?"

"She is fine, she is not within reach. She will get back to you soon enough"

With that, I hung the call. I did not want him to say anything further. I sighed and pocketed her phone.

 "Lucas huh?"

Thomas asked, turning towards home.

"Yeah, he is worried. He wants to hear from hear"

I replied.

"I told you he is not a suspect. I don't see him as one, that guy is cool to involve himself in such a mess. I am just worried why we have not heard anything from the kidnappers."

"I am worried too, at least I want to know what they want. They can't kidnap her to just be looking at her, there is a reason"

I murmured, frowning deeply.

"What if there is something they want other than money. Do you have any business with anyone, like contracts or so?"

I had to pause to think following Thomas's statement.

"No, you do know what I do and it's not something that attracts enemy"

Thomas looked at me, "Check within yourself, is there anyone you have offended that would try to get to you by kidnapping Jenny?"

"I have no idea. Dr Emmanuel would not kidnap Jenny for any reason"

He nodded and then continued driving.

"We continue to think to see if there is anything that will give us a clue to why she is kidnapped because if it's for ransom, I am sure they would have called by now"

  "Okay"

I responded, sighing. Whatever reason that is it for her kidnap should be made known let me know how to go about it.

I did not realize we had arrived home until he pulled up the car. I got down and walked towards my house. I am not sure he is following me because I could hear nothing in my surroundings except my thoughts.

Stepping onto the pavement, I found the door opened. At first I thought maybe Jenny has returned because I perceived her fragrance, not until I saw Ava staring quietly at me leaning against the wall.

It's either she uses Jenny's type of perfume or she is wearing Jenny's own.

"I woke up and found the house empty then I went into your room. I did not see any of your wife's things, rather I saw another woman's luggages. Is your mistress here and if yes, where is she?"

Looking at Ava, I did not know what to say to her. A little good morning from her would have at least been something but no, what did she do on sighting me? She asked a stupid question at the end of her senseless statement.

I shook my head at her childishness and walked towards my room.

Jenny's point of view….

The door cracked open and a skimpy nightie was thrown at me by the guy who I thought was my savior but turned out to be my tormentor. He walked in with his eyes roaming all over me

"Someone will get you cleaned up and wear that. You can choose to protest and you know what that means? Another dead body. You would not want to try me"

He said, sending deadly looks to me. I shifted uncomfortably as I stared from him to the nightie imagining how I would look in it. If I get to wear this, it is good as I am naked.

"I can't wait to see you take care of me this morning"

He said, smirking dangerously at me. I swallowed hard, keeping my stares on his face.

He does not look like he was joking and I am not naive to think I don't understand what he means by that.
