Zain's point of view…..
I did not see a reason to be in the dining room this morning because I was having a terrible mood. I just have two options why my morning is somehow ruined, it could be because of Lora or because I was thinking about Jenny all morning. Her image kept lingering in my mind, the way she smiles, giggles and the way her eyes lit up whenever she is excited.
I kept imagining what it would have looked like if we had been together for thirteen years now.
For a moment, all I wanted was to have her back and forget all that had happened but the fact she cheated and sent the tape to me before breaking up with me was all that I needed to remember that she has to be punished. Thirteen years is a long time. I have waited for her to come back and apologize but she is not forthcoming so it's time to hunt her down and make her pay for what she did to me, she has to pay.
I tossed the ring in my palm and put it back into my breast pocket.
I saw the way Lora's eyes narrowed at me when I put the ring in my pocket. I smirked at her then looked at Owen. His eyes met mine, we stared for a while before I looked at mercy who was minding her business while she ate her breakfast.
Off course I know why Owen married her, she has Susan's heart.
I was really furious when I heard that Susan was killed. We had wanted to sue the doctor but Mrs Thompson fought against it. She said it will not bring Susan back so it was time wasting suing the doctor.
It's so unfortunate that she lied to me that she doesn't know where Jenny is, you heard that right. I had went by to her place after two weeks and she denied ever seeing Jenny but information have it that she does which narrowed to why she has to lie and it has to be because Jenny told her to lie to me and because I love her so much, I had done nothing about it.
Speaking of Mrs Thompson, I looked at Claire who was toying with her spoon. I think it's time we tell Claire what she needs to know.
Each time I look at Claire, it reminds me so much of Susan, it's not just the feeling but the appearance. She has got Susan's look, she is like Susan's mini version.
I was about taking my eyes off her when I saw a tear dropped from her eyes.
"Claire" I called out to her and she looked up, with tearing eyes. All eyes were on her now.
"What is it?"
"Nothing, uncle"
She replied not sure of her own words. I wasn't buying her reply. Who shed tears without a reason.
"Claire, are you okay darling? what is it, you can talk to me" Owen asked with worried expression.
She shook her head and looked down again at her cereal, another tear dropped, almost inside the bowl of her cereal.
"No, dad. I am fine."
She insisted she was fine and it was really getting to me. She is one person in the world that I would protect with my life. You don't see Claire cry or get pissed off easily so this is definitely something.
"Common, Claire, say what the problem is. We can't know until you tell us."
Mercy chimed in.
"Mom, I said I am fine!" Claire yelled, hitting the table with her fist.
Mercy flinched and Owen stared at Claire shocked. Lora had no expression on her voice. I am not sure she ever doesn't have expression unless she sees me with another woman.
"You don't ask me that because you won't understand if I tell you"
Her voice cracked as more tears gathered in her eyes.
There was more to why she is behaving this way. It was like she was saying something only her and Mercy knew about. The relationship between them both is not so great and I know it could be a biological reason. Claire doesn't feel the connection between a mother and child even when she doesn't know that Mercy is not her biological mother
"I..I... er" she trailed off. I sighed and stood up.
"Let's go, let me drop you off to school "
I said walking round to her side and pulling her by the hand.
She took my hands and smiled apologetically at her father but spared her mom no glance.
I pulled her through the entrance to the open, soon we were walking towards the limo, her favorite car among my cars. Maybe I should get her one soon.
